This is my first post and I will admit that I am an amateur. That being said, I have a certain understanding of mechanics, just not enough to be paid for it.

Joking aside.

I have two mowers:

MTD (with bag) [with bent cam shaft]
It has a 3.5 HP Briggs and Stratton engine
21 blade length

Murray (mulcher)
It has a 4 hp Briggs and stratton engine
22 blade length

I want to swap the 3.5 for the 4 hp and gain back my ability to bag. The mounting locations match up and I know it would be safer to swap the blade adapters. I don't think it is smart to use a blade length that was not intended for a smaller deck.

I know I can do the swap, but have I thought everything out?

Is this feasible?

Crankshaft diameter and length will be the deciding factor in the swap. If you run a shorter blade than what the deck is designed for, you may not get a full mowing swath with the mower, that is it. If the cranks match up then go for it.

I don't think there's a safety issue regarding the blade holders, and the mounting holders for the blade may be the same. If it fits, "race on it".
