Briggs And Stratton Classic 35 Air Vane

hi i am fixing my lawnmower which has a briggs and straton Classic 35 Engine.

i just want to check to make sure my air vane link hasn't being stretched, i am wondering if anyone has the measurements from one side to the other ignoring the loop. the part number for this is 690347.

Thanks for the response but I have researched all the numbers and got part numbers but juat want to know what the measurement of the part I mentioned above is. If It is stretched then I will replace but if not I know it won't be the air vane.
 
Never heard of those measurements being available. Go to website, Jacks Small Engines, and type in your part number. If your's doesn't look like the one pictured, bend it until it does and install. The governor spring which attaches to it is more important than the length of the link.
 
No way in the world that the govenor link can stretch other by an idiot moron bending it then there is SFA that could happen .
Very little can go wrong with the air vane.
Crude , rude & unsofistcated as it is but very robust.
Apart for the idiot moron factor the only service problem regularly encounted is the pivot bolt rusting badly and jambing onto it.

The usual suspect is the front anchor plate being bent backwards due to running into something
 
Only an idiot moron would make that last post. I have seen that piece of linkage bent more than once. Yes, it is very hard to bend, but it does happen to those who are learning how the repair the engines. Easy to fix and no need to belittle those who may have done it. I assume you have many years of working of equipment, but I can also assume that you have made more than one mistake that you will not post here. Don't call the kettle black, unless you can back it up with a perfect record. The OP asked a good beginner question, but only an idiot who feels he is the greatest would answer the way you did. Time to say I'm sorry.

Was having a bad hair day with a Yard Machine type C deck that has been butchers, buggered, modified & mutilated.
And naturally the model number do not match anything I can find, any one know what a type 9 MTD hood is supposed to look like ?
The owner loaned to to the mother in law who had the fuel lines replaced with neoprene tubing and was using E 10.
So if I am not my usual helpful happy self, apologies , Ignorant Idiot moron was for some reason sitting on top of the brain, most of the day.
SO yes it is possible to bend one out of shape and no they do not stretch in service.
And yes I make my fair share of mistakes.
So Turtletom if you have bent it taking it off, yes they can be bent. but it ain't easy and no offense intended.

However the rest was good.
The most common problem is the front anchor plate being bent backwards , some still low shrub branches will do the job.
next is one of the springs missing closely followed by the ends of the springs being badly bent out of shape, usually stretching the spring a bit in the process.

Now more to he point,
What is the mower doing to make you think the link is stretched ?
