Briggs 6.75 Series not starting...

you might look for a part number on your flywheel, and check the parts list for your briggs engine to see it is the right one. Maybe someone swapped it out and because it would not start got rid of it. Have you ever seen this mower run?

Very good points! Yes this one belongs to my dad and he purchased it new.

Well no luck with the new flywheel key. At this point I'm just going to remove the sump cover and check out the camshaft. Hopefully the lobe has spun and I can finally get this engine going, I've checked everything off the list at this point but the camshaft

The camshaft appears to be in good shape, compression release spring works. I did notice that the gear on the crank that drives the camshaft is slipping. The small notch in the back of that gear that holds it in place is flared out allowing it to slip.. 1000018185.jpg

Did you apply some type of filter on that image file or what? Back the lens away and retake the shot. Looks encrypted to me LOL.

Is that gear plastic/nylon? Can you take a picture of the broken gear you removed? I have this same engine on a walk behind trimmer and might consider changing this out this gear before it breaks

I have previously showed the pic. It was the problem, it slipped on the crank and was out of time. I replaced with a metal gear ⚙️
