I actually pulled the head again yesterday and removed the valves, checked the guides, and re-lapped the valve faces and seats. OF course that destroyed the new head gasket. Still the same problem.
I have stuck a fork in it and call it done. I let someone else fight with it as I got in 6 mowers yesterday and need to focus on them.
