Bolens 38" Deck Engagement Cable Won't Engage

Hi. My 38" Bolens... I installed a new blade engagement cable...When I engage the blades with the lever, its obvious that I am not getting enough tension (springing action) for the blade brake to disengage. Did I buy the wrong part? Is there a diferent able that is 1" shorter that gives me more spring?

The part I bought off Amazon was this:

Post model & serial numbers from your tractor under seat possibly.

Also if you look at the hole to the lower left it has wear marks and should be where the cable spring goes.
