I have a Craftsman 26HP 54" deck 6-speed transmission. Model # SWV735 type 3022. I purchased it new in January 2011. The first engine started blowing blue smoke right out of the gate. I called Sears about the problem, and they sent a tech out to fix it. Well, he didn't. He told me that this was normal for the engine, but he would order a new tractor. I received the new tractor in March 2011. Well, this tractor did the same thing, blew blue smoke every time I went down a hill. The smoke went away after running on flat land. To make a long story short, I contacted Kohler with the issue. I was told they didn't know of any problems with that model engine. I still have the issue, but I can't find any reason for this. Does anyone know of this issue and how to fix it? Thanks in advance.

Hello T.

Is this blue smoke from the exhaust or is it coming from the engine valve covers at the bottom and going onto the exhaust pipes?

Kohler had a valve cover upgrade kit that included heat shields and replacement covers. I'm not sure they still have them available.

If it is only from the exhaust pipe exit, it could be missing valve stem seals.

This has been going on since 2011.... It's 2025?

Also depends how steep the hill is.

The rocker covers were change from plastic to steel sometime in 2010. The steel ones would seal with RTV.

The SV735-3022 only had valve stem seals on the intake valves.

Hi Star Tech,

I've only seen a few that even had the update change. I think the heat shields were the most important factor. I made some templates of a set years ago and only ended up making 1 set of the heat shields. I'm not even sure what happened to my templates.

The only exhaust heat shields I have seen are the OEM equipment ones. The only Kohler heat shield I have seen is the Courage single fuel solenoid heat shield.

But of course I don't see everything either. One could come in tomorrow.

Never had a problem with plastic covers but that Kohler kit is 32 755 49-S and retails for $21.40; unless, you just insist on aluminum covers. Now those prices does include the so called free shipping.
