Blade engagement cable LT 2500 Craftsman

Im having trouble with the cable that engages the blades. It keeps slipping out of the slot on the handle that engages the blades. How do I keep that from happening? Is there an adjustment to keep the cable tighter in the first place?

Have you checked to see if the deck tension spring is in place? With the spring disconnected or
lost, there would be slack in the cable that could cause it to jump out of place
