Greetings from Northern Virginia. I was drawn here by a thread in the Craftsman area, as I have come across an old powered reel mower. I like the older machines. Motorcycles (69 & 73 Honda's), old outboard motors(multiple), and, of course, old mowers. My "weekly cutter"(equivalent of daily driver?)is an Old Honda HRS21, circa about 1983,which I've converted to an HRM21, and my backup is about a 10 year old HRT216. But I do love the old Briggs & Stratton motors. I have 3 or 4 of those around just for kicks, not including my latest find.
The HRS21 was actually a trash pile find. Someone had put it to the curb, and I snagged it. About a half hour of work, and it started right up, so I replaced the wheels and tires, got a new blade and a mulching plug. I did replace the carb within a couple weeks, as the petcock(not replaceable on it's own) was leaking. Great mower.
The screen name. I have been a statistic(unemployed) for almost 7 years, so long that I'm not even a statistic any more. Year before last I pondered doing small engine repair and had come up with the name. I thought I'd put it to good use.
Okay, are either of you on Facebook? There is a thread called "Growing up in McLean in the 70s" that has just gone somewhat viral in the last 3 days. For the last year I had gotten 1 or 2 hits a month, but in the last 3 days- 3 or 4 HUNDRED! Check it out.

It has drawn people in from as late as graduating in 81. There's a reunion type of thing at JJDeli located inside the Herndon Centennial Golf Course on May 21st, 6:00 to 10:00.
909 Ferndale Avenue, Herndon.
Yep. And as a former parts man at a Honda M/C and power equipment dealer, I had total cooperation in looking for parts for such an old machine. Actually, they like the old ones as much as I do. My old boss there has a Honda 100 watt generator(yes, 100 watts) that is just a tad smaller than a 6-pack cooler from the 60s.
That the two-stroke one? I've seen an itty-bitty generator at an implement show.....they were running a light bulb with it........it sounded like a weedwhacker, and was, as you said, no bigger than a 6-pack......didn't see what kind it was.
Some schools combine middle and high school together....like mine did.....and just called the whole deal 'High School'.
BTW....."High School Never Ends"......don't expect anyone here to get the reference to that, but I said it anyhow...

Fairfax County Schools has 9-12 as High School, most Middle Schools are just 7 & 8 a few are 6, 7, & 8 Depending on when he went to school and what schools he was in --- It is possible he was in one of my classes. I'll agree that Learning never ends, but MY High School days absolutely ended in 1970 !

"High School Never Ends" is a punk song by a group called "Bowling for Soup", and it's a song about how the society in High School is the same kind of society that is in 'real life'. It doesn't change.
Chorus:
The whole damned world is just as obsessed / with who's the best dressed, and who's havin sex / who's got the money, who's got the honey's / who's kinda cute, and who's just a mess / And you still don't have the right look / And you still have the wrong friends / Nothing changes but the faces, the names, and the trends / high school never ends......
It was on the radio, you might have run across it somewhere......

OK - The words make sense, but I probably would turn the station or turn the radio off before I ever actually heard the words. (like my parents would have when the 60s & 70s "music" was on the radio).

Hey Mini Motors -- and welcome to the forum.
I grew up in Arlington, VA and that's where I acquired my taste for older machines. When I saw you username I thought of one of my obsessions when I was in school there (Washington-Lee HS): Mini Cooper cars. I had a 1963 Mini Cooper plus a 1960 Mini 850 for parts -- I was always working on them -- good memories.
I have several Lawn Boy mowers from the 1970s. They are light, powerful and built to last. If you ever have a chance to pick up an old two-stroke Lawn Boy I don't think you'll be disappointed.
