Perhaps having the customer sign a repair order that includes a couple of disclaimers that you are not acting on behalf of any manufacture and not a repair center for a particular brand. you aren’t responsible for consequential losses including loss of income, down time etc and other nuisance things to avoid. You can’t eliminate but you can reduce Them.
Hello G.,

This guy just wants to play the victim like much of our society does these days. It will likely be early next year before I hear anything more from the county court.

Meanwhile, the machine will just sit, chained to a farm tractor.

Darn it you have been in business too long as you done got wise except they may bring bolt cutters.

I one that tried that about 6 yrs ago by his son with a large farm trailer and he was trying load the mower when he found out I have a 12 ga. He said told him he already paid the bill when he didn't. I made to unload the mower and made that it was cash now instead of a check to get the mower. Trust was lost that evening.

Last year, I also quit letting anyone drop off or pick up equipment except the actual owner.

"...hmmm, last I heard that person is voted into their position by We the People..."

That didn't stop him from becoming a dictator, though.
He didn't shut down the government over the Democrats trying to give our tax money to illegal immigrants for their healthcare.

I have a customer who filed a court claim on me because I refused to warranty repair their broken-down machine.

Sounds crazy, but there is a catch.

This John Deere Z-920 came to me with a crankcase full of fuel. they had been running that way spitting plumes of smoke out of the exhaust for about a week. There was raw fuel spitting out of the exhaust when it arrived. I drained it and changed the oil, then ran it to clear up the smoke. Corrected the bad carburetor needle and test ran it to confirm repairs. There are no further issues

Now the customer is claiming by a lawsuit I need to buy them new mower for their negligence. He has not even picked up the machine and ran it.

Have people gotten that stupid?

Edit:

For the record, they are not getting the machine back until this thing plays out. I told him to have his attorney talk to mine and I would not discuss anything further. Meanwhile costs can climb because he wants to play the victim.

Here is something I have wondered about GST and VAT taxes is my thinking it is only on the increase value amount added or is on the whole amount? I do it gets past along to the end purchaser.

So either way tax is cumulative depending on how middle men is involve right?

Here in the US most business are tax exempt on purchases as long we have the exemption certificates. It is the final consumers that pays the tax on the retail amount. Therefore there is no real hidden sales taxes which to pay taxes on too. Then at the end of year we pay income taxes on our net profits and companies that sale to my business pays on their net income. So normally all businesses pay some taxes from the OEM to the final shop. Thus this why we have set profit margins as this to our wages and the business expenses including taxes.

Our sales tax structure seems to be simpler to work with but most times it is just a matter of learning how things are done. Here it is 9.5% county wide on materials and labor because we have no state income tax. In Alabama each town/city has their own sales tax add to the county and state sales tax. No tax on labor the last time I checked because they have a state income tax.
GST/HST is only paid by the end user, businesses get to claim any GST they pay back from the gov against their GST liability (the amount they need to charge their customers).

Here in Manitoba, we also have 7% PST, so 5% + 7%... Alberta has no PST. And pretty minimal government debt.

This is a lawnmower forum. Take your political views elsewhere folks.
Right. I may mention something that affects me but otherwise I stay out politics and religion subjects.

I had a customer to ***** about the cost of parts for his mower and I said you can blame the tariffs. I can't help it that the parts were made in China. He wanted to start a fight then. I said leave now and don't ever darken my door as I can't help it that was the cause you just have to deal with it like the rest of us.

It is like coffee that I had to give up because how things are now. First of the year a can was under $11. Then Month it was just under $18 that is when I quit. Last weekend the same can of coffee was just under $22. And other groceries prices are still rising at a rate higher than the average inflation rate. I basically gave on finding reasonable beef prices.

Then it is sorta like the way I pay except with the tax exemption the tax is not billed to me. Then when I sell an item to the end-users they pay the sales tax of the retail price; unless, they have tax exemption. If they do I must keep a copy of exemption in the customer's file. Just cuts down on the paperwork. Each qtr if I had any tax exempt they are reported as such; otherwise, I pay the full sales tax collected on sales.
