Recently picked up and restored a TB Tuff Cut 230 with a Briggs Quantum 6.75, vintage 2004. I have never had a Briggs engine with a purge bulb before because other mowers I have owned or worked on were newer and come with the non-purge bulb Autochoke system. The 230 requires me to struggle with the cord 5 to 7 times to get it started after the suggested 3 pumps of the primer. The manual says it should start on 1 or 2 pulls. The problem may be that the purge bulb is not "purging" or pulling fuel even though I installed a new bulb and cleaned the housing and screen where the bulb resides. I don't really know for sure if this is so because I don't know what to expect from a Briggs purge system. Should I be able to hear fuel gurgling and flowing when I pump the bulb? I don't. Will be grateful if someone with purge bulb experience can assist me.
