B&S High Capacity Voltage Regulator in Spec?

Craftsman YTS4000 with lights, 24 HP v-twin model: 917289250 B&S engine: 445677-1188-B1 (engine build date 11/08) Engine Serial #: 081105YG44497

Charged her up, battery had a 02/26 MFG date.

Installed battery. Measured voltage off was 13.1v. Powered right up and let her run for 15 minutes. Measuring voltage after starting at full RPM climbed from about 14v to 16.4v after 15minutes. Measured voltage at idle and it was ~14.x volts.

Want to make sure charging system is working in spec. Don't want to fry the battery. What is/are the correct part numbers if I need to replace the regulator?

Attached is the schematic wiring diagram and different ignition systems.

Not sure which one I have. Is there anything I can check or measure to confirm?

Visually on engine, I do not see a block style voltage regulator on engine metal shrouding. What are I missing?

According the circuit schematic you should have Red and Black wires coming from the stator which is a Dual Circuit. No voltage regulation as it is only 3 amp max unless a regultor is added then it becomes a 5 amp output stator. Briggs does not spec the voltage output of the dual circuit DC side just the max amps.
 
It looks good! 14 volts is normal.
Here is something I learned on Honda Express mopeds …..the battery is part of the “voltage regulation””. The 14 volts is expected to keep the battery at 12.X voltage.

Yes red and black wires coming from stator. So I guess I'm good Star? :) Always good to check with folks way smarter than me...

How come some configs have no voltage regulation while others do not?

Over the winter my snowblower LED lights started pulsing then blew. Checked the regulator and it was bad.

What concerned me was not the 14v at idle, but rather the climb to 16V at max RPM without deck or traction engaged. But as Star stated dual circuit stator has no spec output voltage on the DC side only max amps.
 
I’ve seen this before on a new fully charged battery.
I’d characterize it as normal.

Much thanks! I got 8 years out of the battery I replaced. Stored it each winter in my basement which is about 60 degrees and put it on a charger a few times over the winter. Yeah hit the lottery on the battery.
 
8 years out of mower battery is phenomenal. 3 years is average.
Yeah it was a U1R 340 CCA DieHard Gold bought at a Sears Lawn & Garden Center. I know all the players only warranty 12V lawn & garden batteries for 3 months because a lot of folks just leave them on the mower in the shed all winter and it will be fine in the spring.

Did some research and saw that East Penn Mfg makes a decent Deka Outdoorsman brand. U1R are harder to find than U1, O'Reily's sells a Super Start 350 CCA and I believe the source is East Penn Mfg. Was $69.99 with core exchange ($10). Hoping to beat the average again.
