B&S 17.5hp on Craftsman T110 Extreme white smoke at startup. Oil is fresh and at top of hash marks on dipstick. Blue/white smoke pours out of the muffler for the first 5-7 mins of warm up then clears up. Otherwise runs fine. What can be causing this? It's only about 1.5 years old with normal use.

If its the engine i think it is, most likely it is a blown head gasket between the push rod chambers and the cylinder. a quick check you can do is let it run to operating temperature, shut it down, and remove the dipstick, if you see whisps of smoke coming out of the tube, most likely the head gasket is blown.

Yes, a slightly blown head gasket can cause it to smoke on startup then clear up and run good. I just changed one a few months ago where it would puff one big puff of blue white smoke on startup and then run fine.
Thank you! Just ordered now. Videos seem pretty easy. Would you happen to know where I could find torque specs for the different bolts that are removed in the process?
Main thing that needs torqued would be the cylinder head bolts, 220 inch pounds.

it appears the torques and measurements are metric on this one,,,, which can easily be converted to Inch or foot pounds, or thousandths.
