I just wanted to share my experience after several replacement of the carb on a 44R677. It probably applies to other models as well.
Main takeaway - NEVER assume the person that worked on your mower before you knew what they are doing. I don't know why, but I keep forgetting this.
When it came time to replace my carburetor I found a Chinese made copy of what was currently installed. It ran fine but I always had to use starting fluid on the 1st start. Over time I did some research and found the choke linkage on the carb was not compatible with the governor throttle assembly. The governor assembly engages the choke from a bottom to top, but the carb model is designed for a front to back motion.
Long story short - I found a carb with the right choke mechanism for the win. Be advised that all these replacement carbs show they are compatible with the same engine and tractor models, even though there is a clear difference in the linkage.
