Repairs 79 Steering column fit a 99 model?

The triangular piece that is welded to the bottom of the steering column the tie rods connect to on a 99 model cracked the other day on dad's 33" Hi Vac.

Question:

Will the steering column from a 79 model fit a 99 model?

I've already transfered the deck off the 79 model onto my 2000 model so this mower has become a parts mower.
