im working on making a 67 drive link chain for a stihl. i havent been doing this long and this chain is confusing me. ive cut 68,70,72 link chain. but this odd number link is not adding up. a normal chain goes link, cutter tooth, link, cutter tooth. if im looking at this right, this will have to go link, link, cutter tooth....or.....link, cutter tooth, cutter tooth. any help is appreciated

67 drive link chains for Stihl fit professional / larger saws such as MS260. The chain is .325 pitch, .063 gauge, 16" bar.

Yes, you will have to lose a cutter to make that loop. Also make sure you are getting the correct gauge, as all of the Stihls around here use .063 for their .325 chain.

I have a 026 Pro and its .063 gauge chain and bar. You can use 50 gauge chain on 63 gauge bar.

That's physically possible but not advisable. The too thin chain rattles side I sin the bar, wearing the bar. Or it leans to one side in the cut, making the cut curve and wearing the bar rails.

How does it wear the bar rails? Got proof of this? Its the drag links in the chain that are 63 gauge not whole chain itself. Stihl dealers are the only ones that carry the 63 gauge chain. Everybody else carries the 50 gauge chain.

The tie straps (side pieces) of the chain are the same gauge, but the drive link is thicker (.013") thicker on the Stihls chain than say Husqy. Incidentally, Jonsered use .058 chain in a .325, between Husqy and Stihl. So...when you use a .050 chain in a .063 bar, you have .013 wider a bar groove than chain. The slop allows the chain to lean over sideways, wearing one bar more than the other. Or it beds down in the centre of the bar causing a bur on both rail edges. Proof: reference chain working and maintenance manuals from Oregon and Carlton.

Good shops carry the size chain that the customers need. 67,74,81 drive link chains are unique to Stihl in the .325 gauge, so to buy those link counts in .050 gauge
would be silly.
