Everyone seems to obsess over the hours on a tractor. With that in mind, when bagging a large 3 acre property is it better to let the engine idle while emptying the bags (8 or 9 times for grass (more for leaves)) or turn the tractor off each time ? Turning the tractor off each time would save a little bit on the hour meter but maybe cause the starter to fail sooner ?

With my mower (but keep in mind it's a push mower) I let it idle since it has a blade-brake clutch. I do it to save gas because it would use more gas to start it each time. Personally if I were you I would let it idle, but I don't own a lawn tractor.
