Looking forward to cleaning the engine fins on my new CC lawn tractor. Looking for a little guidance. What shields do I remove to blow off the engine? Took my blower to the engine and something must have come loose. Now I hear something banging around under the flywheel cover. Help.

Totally stunned again. This is the second post about cooling fins. Amazing.......

Should be a plastic or metal cover to remove. Get down to the flywheel with all the blower fins on it.

To get the blower housing off you will need to take the engine off. You may be able to take the screws that hold the blower housing on and slide it back and get some access that way.

Get your self a parts manual (download) that will show you what comes off , the rattle may be something behind the plastic shield at the rear of the motor easy off and check
Give the engine a good blow over with a garden blower that will remove a fair amount of rubbish

To get the blower housing off you will need to take the engine off. You may be able to take the screws that hold the blower housing on and slide it back and get some access that way.

Since when do you need to remove an engine to remove the engine shroud?
Take the engine shroud off, blow off the cooling fins, etc. with a blow gun. Take a small screwdriver and work it into between fins and tight spaces, and a wire brush and blow it out until it is clean.

It is a horizontal shaft engine.

Thank you for all of your help. I’m going to download the Parts Manual. I couldn’t locate a Service Manual.

It is a horizontal shaft engine.

Even if it is a horizontal shaft engine and it is tight, the engine should not have to be removed to clean the cooling fins.

Got everything off without removing the engine. What a mess. The previous owner, or shop, didn’t put the screws back correctly so everything was shaking and rattling. I got everything fixed and cleaned out with a blower. Put all screws and bolts back in and she sounds great.
