Hello All first post for me. I have a 2004 tiger cub 250 hours. I was using the mower over the weekend and suddenly it stopped moving. no pump whine nothing strange or weird. Checked the fluid reservoir and it was empty:ashamed:. I honestly did not check it because there was no sign of a leak in the garage where it was parked. So I replaced the filter and filled the reservoir with 2.5 quarts. I ran the mower for 10 minuets hoping it would bleed itself out. Still nothing. There is no pump whine and the the fluid is not moving. What is my next step? Thank you in advance for your help.

Is the pump drive belt OK?

Wow didn't even look after I realized the fluid was gone I automatically started looking on that side of things. I will take a look tonight. Thanks

And check the bypass valves not unheard of for one of them to work itself around to the bypass while mowing.
never heard of both doing it but won't take 10 sec to check

Before you get into a belt replacement project, lift up the foot plate above the deck, inspect the deck drive belt for condition and how it is run around the pulleys. The deck drive belt tensioner is right there also and you will need to release the tension on this belt so it can be removed from the electric clutch as it is below the pump drive belt. Lift up the seat and you will see the pump drive belt tensioner and it will also need to be released to remove the old pump drive belt and install the new pump drive belt. I suggest that you look at the parts manual for your machine to become familiar with the routing of both the deck drive belt and the pump drive belt. After the pump drive belt is correctly installed, then the deck drive belt needs to be reinstalled onto the electric clutch.
Both tensioners have a square hole in them where a 1/2" drive extension with a breaker bar can be used to move the tensioner arms in tightening the springs to release the belts from the tensioner pulley. I suggest that you have a 2nd person to hold and turn the breaker bar and you can grab the belt and pull it off and away from the tensioner pulley.
As a mechanic, doing this is routine for me, but can be a challenge for the unfamiliar. I use a small mechanics mirror to look around all the pulleys when the belts are off and when I put new belts back on, do this before you start the engine!!!!

Scag recommends replacing the pump drive belt every 400 hours, not sure what the calendar recommended replacement time is, probably 2-4 years.
I generally replace 2-3 deck drive belts to one pump drive belt as I use a collection system on my Tiger Cub which adds more wear and tear to the deck drive belt than normal.
If you need a manual for your machine, get the machine serial number, go to the Scag home page, scroll to the bottom of the page, click on operators manuals, Scag Tiger Cub, find your serial number range and click to download it. The Briggs powered Tiger Cubs are in a separate listing.
When you have satisfactorily completed the belt replacement(s), you still need to find out why the hydraulic system was low or out of oil.
Have fun!!!

thanks for the advice I left the old belt on just for the very reason of routing the new one. I have my original manual which is a huge help thanks again for the advice.

I have done the deck belt twice very well designed and almost easy to do
