2001 yardman riding mower won"start

my 17.5 hp briggs @straton turns over and fires for 4or5 seconds then quits firing. Checked a couple of plugs in it @ replaced mag.

Sounds like a fuel problem.
Clean the carb and fuel system.

Get a can of starter fluid.
take the air filter off and start the engine.
When it is about to die give it a little squirt of fluid ( note I said little )
If it continues to run continue the squirts.
If it looks like you could do this forever, don't, stop the engine and clean out the carb. you have a fuel supply problem.

Oft the starts then stalls out shortly after is water in the float bowl

Does that carb have a solenoid on the bottom of the fuel bowl? If so, see if it is opening. Those directly block fuel to the carb fuel nozzle when not energized.
