About two months ago i was given a 1976 (model 5274) Lawnboy. It was sitting out beside a friends residence and i asked him about it. He said that it was his dads and he didn't know what he was going to do with it. I offered to buy it and he said that i could have it. He said that it had not ran since his dad passed away about 25 years ago. I took it home and checked the gas tank and it was empty so i put some fresh mixed gas in and primed it and pulled the cord about 6 times and it fired up. The deck is magnesium and was missing some paint and the handles had some rust on them so i decided to repaint it and clean it up. I used VHT engine enamel (Grabber Green) and i painted the handles black and took off the grass catcher chute and replaced it with a new cover and took the original plug out and cleaned it and now it starts with the first pull. I didn't take any before pics but here is the after pics.

That is a real nice find, and a great restoration (with a puff can) That color really looks pretty close to authentic. How does it look in real life?

That is beautiful, great job! His dad would be proud of that if he were there to see it. Always love seeing an old mower resurrected to that condition. Two thumbs up!
To me it turned out fantastic. When i showed the guy who gave it to me he said "that his dad would be very happy". Like i said it sat for 25 years and now it starts first or second pull. It still has the original plug in it. I took it out and cleaned it but other than that it is a great little mower. Thanks

We would have the commercial grasshoppers buying the Toro's the four cycle heavy iron. They would buy fertilizer, lime, fescue and bluegrass, antifungual etc.
My dad's friend, he finally gave a lawnboy a try. It sure was expensive then the regular fours and it made funny high RPM sounds... Years later he did admit that the lawnboy while 60% premium over the other mowers, it sure did outlast 3-4 of them other ones.
