I am new to this forum and I am hoping someone can help me with my 1970-71 Simplicity Landlord 3310 V with 36" snow blower attachment. It is driven from an engine mounted, front PTO. My snow blower attachment seems to be working very well and all the pulleys are in decent shape but it will shred and toss the belt in less than five minutes. I have tried several different belt sizes all resulting with the same outcome. Does anyone know the correct belt # or belt size for this and what is or how does the belt tensioner function?? Snow is getting near!

Please provide us with the model and serial numbers from both the tractor and blower so we have a better idea of what you are dealing with. You should find an ID tag on both units.
1970?1971? Simplicity 3310 V Landlord ID# 653 601749/snow blower mfg# 990670/ser# 2529. It had a shredded/twisted belt that was mostly strands. I began with a 65 inch x 1/2 belt and progressed to 67..68 and 69 x 1/2inchall twisted and shredded within minutes. I do not know the proper size or part number and have been finding very little info...help please

I don’t know where to start, as the model numbers you posted don’t make a lot of sense.
1. The 990670 number comes back to a mower deck.
2. For anyone else looking at this thread the tractor model number Is 990653.
3. I’ve come up with a snowblower number of 990663.
4. It uses a belt number of 171001, which should have dimensions of 65.54” X .50”.
5. The pulleys in the pictures look to be original, if so I would be checking for bearing and pulley wear. If not in good condition, they will cause your problem.
6. If I were you I would be going to your local Simplicity dealer or contact Simplicity directly to obtain an operators manual for the blower. Trying to explain how to adjust the belt is not something I am willing to type out here.

Thank you. While I have yet to find a specific cause for the early belt demise I at least now know the proper size and number.I can stop guessing and spend more time on other possible problems. I apologize for the wrong serial number...it was for my mower deck. There are no numbers to be found on the snow blower.
Apologies accepted, but for others who post please make sure you double check any numbers for accuracy. It took an hour of searching to figure out the Simplicity numbers with bad numbers on a 50 year old unit. I worked on Simplicity units back in the 80’s and luckily I found some old materials on how to decipher their model numbers. To the OP, please triple check those pulleys for any wear or you may have more problems, even with the proper belt.
