    AT WHAT RPM............

I have a Liberty Z 48" w/Kawasaki FR651V. I know to engage the blades at about 3/4 throttle. Does it matter at what rpm to dis-engage?

Buying a forever lawnmower. Lawnmower buying advice.

All I would add is TO NOT cut the grass while it's wet. It's bad for the grass plus wet grass makes for much build-up under the deck. If you're not into cleaning it regularly, it'll promote rust and ultimately a pre-maturely rotted out deck.

I too have a Magna-Matic blade balancer. It works like nothing else---very accurate. I have a ZTR and bought the MM thinking it was worth the price vs having to replace spindles prematurely.

OK to use synthetic oil ?

I have a scag liberty z with the Kawasaki engine. Changed the factory oil @ 7 hrs using Mobil 1 20W/50. Last year I started using Valvoline synthetic racing oil 20W/50 (black bottle) because of the higher zinc content, as well as in my Troybilt push mower with Honda GCV 160 using 10W/30. I get...

    Age old question, Winter Storage?

I have a Scag Liberty Z w/Kawa engine and a TroyBilt push mower w/Honda engine. My method of winter storage for both is to use Seafoam (3ozs/gallon) Stabil Marine and Yamaha RingFree in nothing but ethanol free gas. During the off season. I will crank up both at least twice monthly and let 'em...

Looking for a problem free 42" Zero Turn Mower

I have a Scag Liberty Z 48" w/Kawasaki FR651V. It has 115 hours of use, which isn't much. To this point, other than routine maintenance like changing oil and filters, greasing the 6 zerks yearly, and replacing the battery....I have not had any issues. The cut quality is superb. I decided on Scag...

    change hydro oil

I have a Scag Liberty Z 48" w/Hydro Gear ZT 2800's. I too called Hydro Gear who said to change the oil and filters @ 75 hrs. After riding on the mower for 10-15 minutes to get the oil warm, I pulled one filter and let it drain, then did the other. Re-filled the system using Amsoil Synthetic...

    Let's talk about blade sharpening?

I too clean the blades as best I can with wire wheel / brush, then use a 4.5" grinder w/a 60 grit flapwheel. I THINK the correct cutting angle is 30`. I use my $150 MAGNA-MATIC to balance. It is unbelievably sensitive, which explains my frustration having to keep checking balance so often...

    FR651V oil filter choices

I have the same engine on my Scag Liberty Z and use either Mobil-1 102A or Bosch Distance Plus 3330 filters. Both have 99.8%+ first pass efficiency. Oil and filter are changed yearly.

Any mods or adjustments needed for install of cannister air filter?

@lilSIG---thanks for your reply, but I've decided the $250 cost is too much to justify. So I will keep a close eye on the stock filter and replace as needed.

Any mods or adjustments needed for install of cannister air filter?

My shoe size is 12 and decided the $250 cost for a cannister air filter isn't worth it, not to mention I wasn't at all worried about the EPA. With that said, I did order two OEM Kawa filters w/pre-filters, which will be installed shortly.

Any mods or adjustments needed for install of cannister air filter?

Yes, the oil is the VR1 in the black bottle. I just ordered two new filters w/pre-filters since I haven't replaced the original. The engine has 148 hrs, so it's time to change it.

Any mods or adjustments needed for install of cannister air filter?

txmowman---I am not in extreme conditions, except living in south Louisiana where summertime temps are 95+ degrees with humidity at that level or higher. The occasional fire ant mound is really the only dust that gets kicked up, or if the wind is blowing stuff toward the engine. After each...

After reading all the different responses and knowledgable comments, I have to admit----I am glad that I asked for advice on installing the cannister air filter on my Kawa FR651V. One gentleman said that if I have more exposed dirt in my yard which would kick up clouds of dust, then the...

Any mods or adjustments needed for install of cannister air filter?

No offense to the above replies, my gut tells me that it would not be a mistake to install based on Kawasaki's FX series engines come standard with the cannister type filters. Perhaps I should contact Kawasaki for their feedback.

Thanks for the in-depth reply. I do remove the blades before cutting season, scrub off anything stuck to them, then balance using my $150 Magna-Matic balancer. No Ethanol vs Ethanol Gas

    Bolt Threading for Blade Removal

If you haven't been able to loosen the bolt yet, try heating the housing slightly to expand it with a propane torch, moving it around to spread the heat evenly. Then whack it (the bolt head) a few times with a hammer to help the process. If that works, apply some NevrSieze or similar product to...

    No oil change?

Don't be the next idiot by believing a gas powered engine doesn't need regular oil changes. Think of it like this---If you have a sink filled with hot soapy water to clean dinner dishes, and after the dishes are cleaned you don't drain the dirty water. Instead you just keep adding more dirty...

    Blade bolts to tight

If and when you remove the bolts, re-install them using an anti seize compound on the threads. Guaranteed to never have trouble removing them again. Keep in mind that when the threads are lubed that the torque value will be less. I replaced the standard bolts with grade 8.

changing hydraulic oil and filters on a X-ONEi

I just changed the hydro oil in my Scag Liberty Z 48 last week. It has the HydroGear ZT 2800's. I found it easier to do this when the rear wheels are removed allowing better access to the filters and top port plugs, which need to be removed when re-filling the system. I used Amsoil synthetic...
