I just want to say thank you. I cleaned the filter and the mower no longer " hunts and surges" . I have also purchased a new filter for future use. Thanks again to the people of this forum!

I have the filter : it is a honda filter 1720-288-901 Is there a generic filter to replace this? Here is a pic, I don't know what a "dirty" filter would look like.

The mower has been hunting and surging for over a year now, but I will check the fuel and get a new filter. Hopefully the filters are not hard to find.

have cleaned a couple of carbs on older lawn mowers - this one is a troybilt with Honda engine. It is a newer. I found this video, but I am not sure if this is in the same unit or not. Any advice?

Ok, that is what I was thinking next. I was going to try some gorilla tape until I can get a new one - the season for lawn cutting is just about done here anyway.

Tried the crimping, it didn't work. Not sure if I can buy a new crimp for it or not. If not, I am going to have to think of another way.

Thank you, I will try that. I was also thinking about that flex tape or that tape that is supposedly as hard a steel when used? If not, maybe a small hose clamp (not sure if they make them that small though...)

Please see the attached picture. My choke cable sheathing moves from the housing each time I try to use it. IF I hold it in place, it works, but I would like to fix it if possible.

Well, I have had no luck finding the model/serial number for this. I have checked underneath, the bag, the underpanels - everywhere a layman would look, but I can't seem to figure this one out.

Ok, I don't have the ultrasonic cleaner - and although it is tempting to get one - for this project I don't want to end up spending money on one and never use it again.

Ok I will try that. Do you know if there is a difference with non-chlorinated brake cleaner and regular? I was looking it up and of course, there are so many choices for it.

I am in the midst of "attempting" a repair on the carb and parts for this mower that will not start. There is a thick layer of grease and grass over everything so I am trying to degrease and clean the plastic parts so I can actually see what I am looking at. Does anyone have a solution or...

I am new to owning a lawnmower, as I used to pay someone. I put in the oil that came with the lawnmower up to the prescribed level and then put in the gas. When trying to run it, it smokes and smells like burning. Is this normal for a new lawnmower? Did I do something wrong?
