Hello I had that same engine with the same problem. One of the valve’s got stuck open on the heads as well. That’s the engine that they paid a settlement on it. I end up junk it and replacing with a B&S 19 hp. Good luck with it.

Ok that is the one I ordered IT NOT Sears parts it cost 32.00 dollars it is a generic it is made in China and shipped through Amazon, that's who delivered it. The original sear brand is 59.00 like a brownish color, this is totally black and like an inch shorter.
