    B&S 12H882-3173-E1 Valve adjustment ?

    Hmmm, I think we are in the same boat ! My old 8HP rider refuses to die, so, I must run higher RPM, which causes old-valve-rattle. The solution - try adding a little two-cycle oil to your gas. Just a 'tad'. If it smokes, that's too much. Note: this was written 3 years ago,,, its still running !

    B&S Vanguard 9HP #185142 "OilGard" gizmo

    $100 "OilGard" gizmo - Note: the spelling is from B&S service manual #272147 (which is for water-cooled engines ???) Engine has good compression, carb is functioning, cheap plastic gas tank leaks (above the generator) ... but there's a tin shroud, to direct the leak over-top the hot engine ...
