My ZTX5 has a Kohler ZT740 engine. Seems excessively loud to me. This may be normal but just checking see if anyone else had noticed. Do they make anything to help reduce the noise? Wonder if they make a quitter muffler. Don’t know who supplies their mufflers.
Yes that’s it. I have an internal expansion tank. It shows there is a two prong black adapter to use, but, it screws in on the back side. Do you have to remove the wheel ?
I think Cub recommends half throttle. Even the Zt740 owners manual states half to full throttle. What happens if the solenoid plunger is snipped off . I’ve heard of this being done. Thanks for the help.
ZTX5 with ZT740 25hp Kohler with 15 hrs. Full throttle or idle down for stopping engine . I’ve been lowering throttle to idle and I’ve noticed it’s either backfiring of after firing when I shut it off. I’ve been told to shut down at full throttle, mid throttle, and, idle.
It’s not the parts breakdown as much as the factory service manual that are more in-depth. I’d like to do some DIY things that owners manual doesn’t cover. Thanks so much for your help.
I have the owners manual. The service manual is what I need. From what I understand printed copies were eliminated in 2014. Digital versions are available to dealers only. Used to be able to get the parts, and, service breakdown from Cub. However, partstree and ereplacement parts have the parts...
Just finished changing the break in oil on my ZTX5 ZT740 Kohler. I used a funnel with a strainer. First qt was ok. Second quart found a piece of gray plastic in the funnel screen, same color as the bottle. I used Kohler 10/30 semi synthetic. Glad I found it.
Blue cap is for reference only.
I’m sorry didn’t mean to offend you. I called Cub the other day. It wasn’t that I didn’t like their answer. Most manuals list their own recommended tire pressures and not state what’s recommended on the sidewall. I’m sorry if I wasn’t clear, wasn’t insinuating that you were not a help, just...
I called Cub and they recommend 28 front and 20 rear (sidewall #’s). They aren’t much help either. I put 25 front 15 rear. Also trying to find the weight of the mower with no luck. Thanks
1. Any one else notice an extremely loud deck/blade system with blades engaged? Just wondering if that’s a known issue? Also, do they make shorter lap handles? Still a little high all the way down.
2. What is the weight of this mower?
3. Easiest way to lift mower to change blades without deck...
I’m sorry, you’ve lost me. Deere recommends to place your deck at preferred cutting height (3”) and adjust gauge wheel to 1/4” from the bottom of the wheel to the ground. I can’t get 2 1/2” even if I raise it to the top hole. Thanks
Installed new hardware and leveled the deck on the 3” setting. However, with the bolt in the bottom hole, the deck wheel is about 3/4” off the ground. This is as low as it will go. What am I doing wrong?
I purchased a new JD bolt and the square shoulders are holding much better. I noticed the old bolt shoulders were a little rounded which was causing it not to hold very well. Also the bolt description stated a square short neck. Does that mean a non JD bolt might work with a little longer square...
ill just move it up one hole. What should it be torqued at ? Don’t want to overtighten it. It’s a M8 bolt. What is the next size bigger? It may fit. Thanks
The bottom hole in the deck wheel bracket on my z540m is rounded and I’m unable to to tighten the 13mm nut without it spinning. I know I could move it up one but I mow between 3 - 3 1/2” height. Any suggestions on how to repair it ?
I have a Z540M with a Kawasaki FS730V. I have an occasional puff of white/blue smoke after restart on a warm engine. I use full throttle on restart, as recommended my owners manual, but, wondering if I’m dumping too much fuel with the full throttle. It would probably start on the the low...
I have the blades that came with the mower (M143520). Just wondering if the high lift blades, or, mulching blades would be any better? Would like to find one to cut up leaves better than what I have.
I pointed the fly wheel arrow to the ignition module screw (tdc). Didnt have a feeler gauge so I tightened them down (no movement), and backed the nuts off approximately 1/8”. Still pulls a little hard but not like it was. What else to check for? I ordered a gauge.
I’ve noticed it’s very hard to crank the engine while pulling the rope. Lot of resistance. You have to really hold it down while trying to start it. Is this normal?
Looking further I saw the high throttle screw wasn’t touching the speed control lever at all at WOT. Also, the low governor idle speed screw was backed off as well. Is there a preset on these prior to taking it to the dealer? They’re backed up. I had never noticed them before. Basic idle is fine.
Is there an easy way to adjust governor settings? My idle needs adjusting , but, I’m not sure how to do it. I found the idle screw, but, need to adjust high and low governor screws, as they have been messed with.
