    JD-branded, Powered by LB F-series

I saw this ad which made me curious enough to ask if anybody knows about these mowers, apparently made in the mid-1980s. CL ad: John Deere 12SB 2 cycle self propelled lawn mower This particular mower doesn't sound like something I'd buy (It's self-propelled with other extra stuff like a key...

Walbro WYL-series Carbs: Are Different Models Compatible?

I have a Makita hedge trimmer (model EH760). I'm pretty sure I need to replace the carb. I've rebuilt it and installed new fuel lines and a fuel filter. I've also eliminated ignition problems. On the body of the Walbro carb is stamped just "WYL" but that's a series of carbs, not just one...

    1958 Lawn-Boy Promo Video -- Lamar, MO

I found this video, posted by Lamar, MO. It's about ten minutes long but I enjoyed it all. At about 4:50 they're talking about distribution and LB dealers and show a map of the USA with a bunch of dots (presumably the location of dealers). There are some dots in Georgia which seems odd...

    Bought a R7070 -- Key Word "Yellow"

It's been over a year since I found a Lawn-Boy that I wanted to buy. Supply is very tight down here in Georgia. So I was thrilled to see this one on Craig's List. It has a good old F-Series engine but what I really love are the yellow accents. The shroud, wheels, handle grip and height...

Victa Mowers (It's Summer Down Under!)

Since there's no forum for the brand I thought I'd start a thread about a great Australian mower: Victa. They continue to make two-cycle mowers -- which is interesting to me as a two-stroke hobbyist. Unsurprisingly, their older models are the most interesting. Here's a 1968 model. I...

    Grease for Hedge Trimmer

I have a Makita EH 760 hedge trimmer. The gearbox has a grease fitting. The user manual recommends "Shell Alvania No. 3 or equivalent". I've tried Googling that particular grease and have found a few things: It's Lithium-based and is considered a "normal temperature grease". It's also...

    Model R7268 (1979)

I just bought a 1979 model R7268 via an ad on CraigsList -- only $20, so even if it ends up being a parts mower, I got a good deal. There's no gas in the tank and the starter is stiff and binding. However, the compression seems good. The deck and wheels are in very good condition...

    Suzuki-powered Push Mower

I bought a Toro push mower with a two-stroke Suzuki 47PG6 engine. According so some online research I did, it was manufactured in 1987. I don't have a model number for the mower because it was labeled with a decal at the back of the deck but the decal is gone. It took quite a bit of messing...

Generic Mower Parts -- Good Thread (hopefully)

Does anybody know of a website that sells generic lawnmower parts? The things I'm looking for in particular are: (a) fuel valve -- male/male -- 1/4"= O.D.; (b) fuel filter -- same dimensions as the valve. I've tried searches on Google and Bing but maybe I didn't use the right keywords.

Bad Link in the Lawn-Boy Forum

There is a topic called "PARTS ?" in the Lawn-Boy forum that seems to be a faulty link. When I click on it a blank page comes up. I've tried several times in the last couple days with the same result.

    Lawn-Boy model 10415

I just bought a well-used model 10415 (circa 1994) for $30. When I got it, the engine was running unevenly -- it was necessary to choke it every 15 seconds or so to keep it going. I figured that it was running too lean and then noticed that the needle valve was screwed all the way in! I...

    faulty link

There is a thread in the Lawn Boy forum called "M" parts that is a faulty link. When I click on it, a blank page comes up. There is also a duplicate thread that does the same thing. Another symptom: after I've tried these links, the view counter does not increment (it stays at one.) I've...

    The History of Jacobsen Mowers

Jacobsen isn't a big brand these days in terms of consumer (homeowner) products. They now specialize in equipment used on golf courses and similar applications. I found this illustrated time line (PDF) of the company's evolution from 1921 to 2007. One thing I'm curious about that I couldn't...

Do you make your air filters for savings and fun?

In another thread this came up: do you make your own air filters? There could be some savings as well as a certain amount of satisfaction. What materials do you use? Special techniques?

How about a forum dedicated to two-strokes?

A two-stroke engine is a different and, I believe, superior machine. Two-strokes have passionate followers. Although two-stroke mowers in the USA appear to be a dying breed, most hand-held yard machines (trimmers, chainsaws) use a two-stroke engine for the excellent power-to-weigh ratio.

Does anyone else have a two-stroke Lawn Boy?

My model 7266 Lawn Boy is about 30 years old and the motor is still in excellent shape. It's very light and powerful. If you have a two-stroke Lawn Boy please post photos.
