I would try 10W30 and see if the problem clears up. Why? because straight SAE30 has almost no additive or detergents to soften and remove built up carbon deposits from the rings. It may take a couple of oil changes, but I'm sure it will resolve some of your issues.

I suspect the rings are worn or the oil is too light. Most of these early engines uses straight SAE30 engine oil. Are you also trying to use the choke when starting hot. Some engines with a lot of wear need the choke even when hot.

A piece of painter's tape works fairly well. Put it on the tip while working the ring off with a pair of pocket screwdrivers. If anything, it slows it down from jumping off into never see that again land.

1000 hrs. is an estimated (exaggerated in my opinion) life expectancy of the oil, but not a pass to neglect checking it for water or burning due to heavy duty use. For the filters, I recommend no more than 200 hours like most of the equipment I work on.

You are correct, that is a part listing label you saw, I had to look at mine just a minute ago. The product ID label is actually on the metal seat bottom, left side. Easy to miss if you don't flip the seat far enough. Here is a picture:

The best part of that advice is to use Ethanol free fuel every time. It does not breakdown rapidly like Ethanol blend fuel.

From you description I would suspect there is low compression. Maybe the valves need to be checked for proper seating. Carbon does build up and affect the valve's ability to properly seal.
