Sparkplug is Champion CJ14. Gap it to .035 for F engines. Torque them to about 13 ft-lbs.

Blast the coil with a heat gun, or your wife's blow dryer if you don't have one. Get it good and warm, like a little hotter than hot-to-the-touch. Often that is all it takes to make a coil start firing the plug again.

In my opinion, it would be a mistake to scrap any of these mowers. At least not until someone interested in Lawn-Boys has a chance to look them over. Where are you?

OK, so looking closely at the below-deck picture I have another question, Steven. Do you have two washers on it? Something like that? It looks to me that the nut is not all the way onto the end of the crank, a few threads shy.

We're saying the same thing, just with different words. When the piston is at TDC it is aligned with the crank, so it's really the crank that you are aligning to - you just can't tell where the crank is for sure except at TDC (well, I guess BDC, too...::sigh::). The pictures in the diagram are...

Matt: You bet, but his photo shows he is not using a tri-cut. He has the original flat-blade, stiffener, and washer (but not assembled in the right direction).

If your blade is not aligned right with the crankshaft, rotating it 180 degrees will have no effect. It would still be out of alignment with the crankshaft by the exact same amount. Is this blade rotation you did based on what the manual says? The manual shows it 90 degrees to the crank on C...

Steven, I would have put the blade on exactly like you did. It just looks right. But the Lawn-Boy maintenance manual shows that the washer goes between the blade and the stiffener, not between the nut and the glade. Refer to page 9-15, 225th page in the manual ( or just search for tri-cut)...

Are you talking about the cover on the air filter box? If you are, I've found that it doesn't make a difference; the air coming in the bottom is enough. BTW, it's a carburetor, not a throttle body. Throttle bodies only let air in (no fuel mixture) and are on fuel injected engines.
