    20HP Intek has started surging

Possibly fuel related. Did you add fuel before this began? Could it be a can of fuel with no top where water, dirt, or insects could contaminate the fuel?

I have a thought that inside the governor has failed. It can be replaced but it’s a bit of work with usual new gaskets. Are you willing to do it?

    Briggs and Stratton won't start

Order a replacement carburetor now please. You’ll thank me. That is a plastic carburetor that can be cleaned. However, for your time and money it’s easier to just replace it.

Briggs & Stratton not maintaining throttle

I think you have a bad pump or wand. I’ve seen this behavior before. You engage the wand and it starts to build pressure and then nothing. I hope I’m wrong

Briggs and Stratton Intek v-twin 20hp

Is it possible you have a failing coil? They can fail in under a year. Can you swap the coils to see if misfiring follows the coil? I’d love to see the compression numbers. I read you listed backfire? What causes a backfire? Exhaust valve not closing correctly? Fuel not burning from lack of...

Briggs and Stratton Intek v-twin 20hp

New spark plug wires? Did you replace the coil and wires? What is your compression on each cylinder? I’ve had to remove the spark plug boot then clip a bit of wire off then reinstall the spark plug boot to the clean wire. Misfiring went away.

    Mower Hard To Start

Looks like you have been given excellent advice above. A short term solution, just to get you through the HOT current cutting season, is to give it a shot of starter fluid. Then, once it is cooler, you can check the gasket, fuel flow, and primer bulb.

B&S High Capacity Voltage Regulator in Spec?

I’ve seen this before on a new fully charged battery. I’d characterize it as normal. My words would be “Send it”

B&S High Capacity Voltage Regulator in Spec?

It looks good! 14 volts is normal. Here is something I learned on Honda Express mopeds …..the battery is part of the “voltage regulation””. The 14 volts is expected to keep the battery at 12.X voltage.

What Wheel for Drill To Clean Heads?

I have used a gasket remover spray and then clean the surface afterwards. That seems to work best. In the past, I used only a flat razor blade to remove the old gaskets while working very carefully not to remove any metal. I did my best.

    Grungy gas tank

Just to help you. I have shortened the long fuel pickup to and put fuel line from a weed eater and a weed eater fuel filter on then end to rest at the bottom of the tank. The diaphragm fuel pump on the side has no issues and the cup at the top stays clean. Just an idea for you

    Grungy gas tank

It’s a plastic baffle to help with the sloshing. I’ve seen a sponge inside there too. Bad idea because it deteriorates and clogs up the carburetor. I would remove the tank, then I’d remove the baffle and clean the tank. A replacement tank is about $100 last time I saw one.

Briggs & Stratton 31C707 won’t start after flywheel magnet failure

I understand what you meant and you are correct. It’s possible to get this engine running now. Personally, I’d find a good used flywheel that is correct for this engine that matches the correct keyway and call it a day. I’ve seen them available for as low as $60 and as high as $160...

Briggs & Stratton 31C707 won’t start after flywheel magnet failure

No. I too have seen racing engines without a flywheel key and they used valve lapping paste to hold it to advance or ****** the timing.

    B&S 550 EX stopped - won't restart

There are three primary things you need: spark at the correct time, fuel, and compression. I use the Walmart starter fluid. I sometimes remove the spark plug, spray a shot in the hole, reinstall the spark plug, connect the spark plug wire and then try to start. 95 percent of the time the...

    725EXi throttle application ?

    B&S 550 EX stopped - won't restart

I’m with the team to drain bowl and tank. Definitely possible to have a blockage, but after everything is drained a shot of starter fluid should get it to fire. Have you checked the flywheel key?

Briggs & Stratton 31C707 won’t start after flywheel magnet failure

I see his flywheel on eBay now. It matches via the Model and date code. It has 12 magnets on the inside. The keyway matches to the current broken flywheel. The seller did not put the Briggs part number in the description but there are lots of photos. Item number 158005448071 Mowermandrew is...

Briggs & Stratton 31C707 won’t start after flywheel magnet failure

What can happen is you send them the photo of your old flywheel and they can verify before selling you a replacement. I’d be willing to bet you can find a used flywheel off eBay and visually compare the keyway to the coil magnet on the outside to the listing before purchasing. You have been...

Briggs & Stratton 31C707 won’t start after flywheel magnet failure

These are not the same flywheels. I see the keyway is 12 o’clock on both. The ignition coil magnet on the top one is at about 1 o’clock. The ignition coil magnet on the bottom one is at about 10 o’clock The magnet on the flywheel is where the spark originates and the keyway is critical to the...

Briggs & Stratton 31C707 won’t start after flywheel magnet failure

Just at first glance. I do not see a keyway in the top flywheel but I definitely see a keyway in the new flywheel? I had one with the keyway off by 15 degrees and it was the wrong one. You set them upright with the trigger coil magnet down and they should be the same angle. This is the...

Toro B&S won't start on grade...

Let’s see if I understand this correctly. 1. It’ll only start on level grade 2. You moved it an it wouldn’t start with starter fluid? To me I suspect no spark or no compression. Big 3:Spark at the correct time, compression, and fuel. If you hit it with starter fluid it should have fired off...
