according to the parts diagram, there shouldn't be any steel insert, just an upper "and" a lower bronze bearing...

NOT living up to it! It's had numerous issues, i.e. 2 completely new deck spindles, a pto clutch, and then the motor busted the crank. So, up there's...

have you pull the fuel tank cap off and cleaned any dirt/debris that may be restricting air/fuel flow

try removing the battery(ies) then reinsert, now see if that does the trick... for what it's worth there's a service note on some units that if the machine hits something it will somehow shut off the power requiring the batteries to be removed and reinserted

I'll have to look in my shop; but, I think the manual package had a "Tool" inside for hooking on to the idler arm and pulling to release the tension so the belt can be taken off or put on .. .. .. I'll see what I can find.........

Ouch - I've got about 850 on mine and (crossing my fingers) the only issue has been the PTO switch went bad, kind of expected after a while... and well, there was that morning that I kind of buried it clear up to the frame thinking I could make it through a wet area. Yikes, when I stepped off...

I still have a 1981 Case 108 with an 8 hp B&S, have been through 7 small $60 batteries in all those years. I'd never go Electric anything today.....
