I see only one bolt holding the the belt cover on. You can see the threads for a bolt in the hole that has no bolt. You can also see the markings where I bolt was previously there. If that cover is touching the belt even a little it could ruin the belt. Maybe that belt cover is vibrating...

Do I actually need a blade balance?

Enigma, I've just always balanced them with the screwdriver -- I never even knew there was a tool for this. But as cheap as they are and if it helps maintain the spindle I'd buy one. What kind do you use and how much are they?

Do I actually need a blade balance?

My two cents is yes you are over-thinking it. I just put a screwdriver through the hole. If both sides are even you'll know it. Just balance the blade; if it moves then take some off. I've never gotten one unbalanced.

    Issue with the deck

Tiger, thanks....good point. I'll be out a few days; when I return I'll pull it in the garage where I have a concrete floor. I don't think its off enough to cause this problem but I will check that. Like MParr said the deck side to side adjustment is on the left side and its quite critical...

    Issue with the deck

MParr, I too had to work with it a lot to get it level side to side. The movement with that left side adjustment is so critical.

    Issue with the deck

Tiger, I've not resorted to any grinding yet, as you suggested. I have noticed this: (1) That Bracket Hanger is on the right side (if you're sitting in the seat). (2) The rubbed area can be seen on the outside surface of the hanger if you look under there from the right side. (3) Considering...

txmowman, my FR691v is well past warranty. 13 years old, runs good and never had an engine issue in 13 years.

Tapping dust out of air filter

7394, I was rereading my post about air filters -- its spriingtime, ha. Where do you buy your FS filters? An online search shows Amazon "seems" to have that : 11013-0752 Air Filter for Kawasaki FR651V FR691V FR730V FS481V FS541V FS600V FS651 I say "seems to have that" as it looks exactly like...

    Issue with the deck

Tonebalone, I'm not a computer "whiz" so.....I don't know what I did. I probably attached something else. Who knows. I don't blame you for being hesitant. I've removed that attachment and changed it in my original post. I think you can see it now. Or you can view the diagram at...

    Issue with the deck

I have a deck raising issue I need help with. 2013 Toro MX5060 Timecutter, 50". Last fall I noticed sometimes when I pull back on the lever to raise the deck it only goes so far, to around the 3 position -- like something is blocking it. Then later it would work normally. I forgot about it...

    Kawasaki idles faster after running

StarTech, I know this is an old post I got frustrated last summer trying to figure it out and just left it as it was. I think I found the right page in the manual you sent me --- page 2-7 ?? Actually though my engine is a FR691V 23 hp. I think I'll try this again. "Probably" the adjustment...

Thank you Rivets . I'm sure people on here will be saddened at that. I know he meant a lot to me, and helped me tremendously.

    Hours on a mower

I change oil each season. The manual says up to 10W40 in hot conditions. One thing I've noticed is the local shops are all recommending 20W50 down here. I dont know if they're saying that just to sell another mower to you sooner or what. But they're all recommending it down here because of...

    Hours on a mower

Thanks slomo. I did not know he'd left. Yes, you are right.....he is a super smart guy with mower engines. He helped me tremendously when I had an issue with the transaxles not disengaging when I pushed the rods in on my transaxles. (* Yes, on my Toro you have to push them in not out to...

    Hours on a mower

bertmobile1, you said use some rubber grease to the filter (not the elbow). Makes sense to me; good point. I already have on hand some Lucas White Lithium Grease in a tube. Will that be ok ?

    Kawasaki idles faster after running

Not yet. Its been raining every day hampering me from mowing. However, several days ago I cranked it up and let it warm up and then ran it for 10 mins at fast speed. When I idled it back down it was the same as before, i.e. idling faster than when I cranked it up. I adjusted the throttle...

    Kawasaki idles faster after running

Senior, right now I don't know if anything is "getting longer". I found how to adjust the idle in the service manual that StarTech sent me. Next time I mow and the engine is warmed up I'll try adjusting and see what happens. If it idles down then I'll wait till its cool and start it and see...

    Kawasaki idles faster after running

Yep, same thing -- after I mow awhile the idle has changed up. I've tried reading through that service manual but I don't see anything on this issue. Senior, is yours a Kawasaki FR691v?
  21. J

    Kawasaki idles faster after running

I don't have a service manual, I'm just a homeowner. But you may be right about someone changing it, I had the mower at another shop for a different matter last year because he was the one I could get it in the quickest. I noticed it idled higher so he probably idled it up. Before that it...

    Kawasaki idles faster after running

I have a 2013 Toro MX5060, model 74641, Kawasaki FR691v. When I start the engine it idles normal. After I run it a while and then idle it down it idles faster. I don't have a way of checking the rpms, but its obviously faster just listening to it. Why?? What can I do to make it idle the...

Please help me find this part!

If all else fails it might be possible to take the old one to a hardware store. Maybe Ace or True Value, etc. Or Lowes, Home Depot, Tractor Supply. Some of these places carry rubber hose they will cut to length you need. The inside diameter is the most important thing. Just an idea if all...

    Fuel

Though many mechanics will tout their experiences, I haven't had any bad experience with ethanol in my ZTR, chain saw , or weedeater. But I drain the saw and weeder after use due to the lack of use of those.

    Fuel

TLoyd, I'm in north central Alabama. I have no disagreements with the supporters of ethanol-free. However, I've just been using the regular 87 octane for years with no problem. But, with small stuff like chain saws, weed eaters, etc I just pour back the excess gas into the gas can when I'm...

Briggs& Stratton engine will not turn over

Read this knowing I'm not a mower mechanic. However, since the plug is sparking you know its not electrical. The carb cleaner makes it try to start but it won't continue running. This tells me its fuel related. When you spray the carb cleaner in don't spray a lot. Just a brief hit. Its...

    starter howl

Freddie I did that; I mean applied some white lithium grease. Not a lot; I just dabbed some on with a Qtip and rubbed it around the shaft. The sound is not a whirring (like when a bendix is sticking) its a howling sound while it turns the engine over. Sometimes it doesn't make that "howl" at...

    starter howl

I looked online and found a starter shop in Birmingham. I have not yet taken it to them; partly because it still starts the engine and partly because I would imagine them fixing the issue would probably cost as much as just buying one off Amazon......that is, the Chinese made ones....ughh.
  29. J

    starter howl

It has a good bit of play, more like a wobble than just a little slack. I put some white lithium grease on it. Its definitely quieter but still there some and I know that won't last.

    Continuous using air filter

The engine runs fine. Between mowings I sometimes have to choke it; other times it starts without choking. Either way it runs good. I'll just get a new filter. This one's been on a couple of years.

    Continuous using air filter

2013 Toro MX5060, Kawasaki 23hp. Sometimes it gets real dry and the mower kicks up a lot of dust, especially under all the big trees I have. I take off the paper filter and tap it on a tree trunk getting a lot of dust out of it. I have a foam pre-filter on it but lots of dust still is on the...

    starter howl

    starter howl

I have a Toro Timecutter MX5060, Kawasaki FR691V 23hp engine. When I start it after its set up awhile, say a week or so or longer, the starter makes a howling sound. It never fails to engage or start up but I'm thinking maybe a bearing or something is bad. Its been doing this for several...

    Best for hills?

I'm getting the feeling your slope is quite significant. To keep from popping a wheelie go very slow going uphill. You mentioned uneven terrain too. I have some of that in my yard too. Go slow going uphill, real slow, till you get use to the feel. Watch for sensing any "lightness" as you...

    Best for hills?

You've probably already bought by now but I can telly you this from experience because part of my yard has a significant slope with a ditch at the bottom. When I bought my Toro ZTR I read the manual warning about mowing side ways on a slope. I tried that and it did slide. After that hair...

Make or break features on a zero-turn?

I can only vouch for the zero turn Toro I have. Its very easy to get on and off. I'd think the other brands would be too but I can only vouch for Toro. I'm 77 and this is probably the last mower I will own.

Make or break features on a zero-turn?

Engine and transaxles. I have had very good experience with Kawasaki and Kohler engines. I've owned this 23 hp Kawasaki on my current mower (Toro MX 5060) for 11 years. Never had an issue, none. It also has transaxles made by Hydro-Gear. Very good experience on those too. 11 years, no...

    transmission bypass rod

I had a similar issue on Toro ZTR but the rod was not disengaging the transmission. That is, I could not push the mower. After talking with the manufacturer of the transaxle I found that if I pushed it manually very hard it would disengage. My issue was that over time the rod had bent out of...

Looking for advice re: purchasing a reliable lawn tractor

I ran a Kohler for about 11 years on a JD tractor. I don't recall the hp (maybe 17?), the engine was the best part, no issues at all. The Toro ZTR I now have had for 11 yrs has a Kawasaki. Also, a good engine. No issues in 11 yrs.

Looking for advice re: purchasing a reliable lawn tractor

Toro. Pay a little extra and get a good one. ZTR, welded steel deck and most important, a Kawasaki engine. I've had mine 11 years. I've replaced one belt and two spindles (pulleys) in 11 years. What has been done to the Kawasaki engine? >>>> nothing.

Looking for advice re: purchasing a reliable lawn tractor

Well, I don't know what you're wanting to spend but 13k sq ft is not a big lawn to mow... thats 114 ft x 114 ft. My prior experience with JD was the stamped deck not holding up. Probably the same though for most stamped decks. But the Kohler engine in it was good. I don't recall ever having to...

    Under the Seat switch issue

Senior, yes that's right. This was a Scag dealer. Two Toro dealers had both told me they wouldn't do it till it had 500 hrs on it. Hydro Gear representatives i called laughed at that. The Scag dealer wasn't the most customer friendly but he agreed to do it for me as it's winter. He told me...
