    Parasitic draw

Star Tech, thanks for your detailed post. I'll cut to the chase of where I wound up and even though I'm not sure of how, I seem to have the parasitic draw solved. I first heard the term parasitic draw to refer to a condition where a battery (automotive) lost charge because current was flowing...

Slomo Thanks for your wonderful, enlightened post.

I finally asked myself that question! The only way I could see the starter motor running was if the solenoid contacts were closed and the only way that could happen is if 12v were being delivered to the solenoid thru the little red wire and that could not occur - or wasn't supposed to - unless...

No I didn't disassemble the starter, the motor turned and ran smoothly but the Bendix was a little erratic. That turned out to be a problem. I think I've finally got the problem of parasitic draw solved and I'll give a complete report once I get the new ignition switch and starter I've ordered...

Thanks Guys, I've trouble shot the ignition switch using the wiring diagram and procedures in the service manual and it all checks out. I suspected the switch right off. I don't see how the wiring could be messed up as nothing has been touched since I parked it 4 or 5 years ago. I did remove...

    Parasitic draw

Mark, I understand now that "remote" means the solenoid is mounted somewhere in the vicinity of the starter but not on the starter. Both Cub lawn tractors I'm familiar with have remote mounted solenoids. The solenoid is brand new as when I brought the tractor out of mothballs, the solenoid on...

That's the way mine is, large red cable from solenoid to starter. I don't even know what a remote solenoid is Thanks, Pete

The solenoid is bolted to the bottom of the battery shelf/tray and the terminals are not reachable without removing the battery and the tray mounting bolts

Thanks, I think I could give that a try. I could just run 12V from a battery (+) to the starter terminal and a jumper from the battery (-) to the starter mount bolt and see what happens

Afraid I don't understand what you mean?

Nope, but I'll check it again to be sure. The length of my cables is such that I don't think I could get them backwards if I tried. Thanks, Pete

Hey Y'all, new to this forum but not new to Cub Cadets. My problem is with an LT1050, probably around 20+ years old, hadn't run for 4 or 5 years, so wanted to get her back on the yard. New battery and new starter solenoid and when I went to hook up the neg battery cable, got a spark, with key...
