It's trying to tell you something and you are not listening. The gas you are installing is too high priced and it's polluting the enviroment. The mower want's to not do any work until the price of gas goes down or go ELECTRIC.

If you will take time out pull up a on-line parts list for each mower using the Craftsman model number and compare the part numbers of the tractors lift and control arms for each deck you will then have a general idea if they might fit. I've done such and found this looking at parts lists is...

Remove the rocker and compare that stud to the other one. It's either turned out or if pressed into the head it has got longer. Compare it to the other one.

Strange that both were leaking. Engine must have been excessively hot or the previous gaskets were not torqued in proper sequence and to torque specs or someone previously removed the heads and re-installed using the old gaskets. Head gaskets are pricy now days and some/most are China type.

You can maybe rig a Homelite duckbill vent. It's used in the fuel tank and fuel cap of chainsaws plus others.

Doubt it's warped enough that it's the heads/block. Those use the thicker type head gasket. If it's the head gasket on both it's probly not been torqued in the proper sequence. You can check a head by lapping on a piece of glass, usually

Contact dbelectric. You can find their info on-line. I've had good luck with their starters. You will need the engine model, type and possibly code. The more engine info you can furnish them, and the same on this site, the more useful and correct info you will receive.

Your carb appears to be maybe a Walbro LMT and Briggs quit using it and went to the Nikki and ruxing carbs. It's worth your effort to try to stay with the Walbro LMT because it's the most user friendly carb to repair and the smoothest running when all is correct. I'll post below couple links...
