Briggs 16HP Vanguard carb / fuel problem

You need to put the air shroud back on that engine. (before you overheat and ruin the engine. The air shroud no longer needs to be off. Have you had the main jet out of that carb? (and the emulsion tube that is normally connected to the main jet? If so, did you look at the emulsion tube...

    Gas Tank Issues

It's trying to tell you something and you are not listening. The gas you are installing is too high priced and it's polluting the enviroment. The mower want's to not do any work until the price of gas goes down or go ELECTRIC.

    Deck change out

If you will take time out pull up a on-line parts list for each mower using the Craftsman model number and compare the part numbers of the tractors lift and control arms for each deck you will then have a general idea if they might fit. I've done such and found this looking at parts lists is...

Briggs V Twin 22HP oil leak under both cylinder heads

Strange that both were leaking. Engine must have been excessively hot or the previous gaskets were not torqued in proper sequence and to torque specs or someone previously removed the heads and re-installed using the old gaskets. Head gaskets are pricy now days and some/most are China type.

Briggs 16HP Vanguard carb / fuel problem

but while it revs much better without choke, the problem remains, it will only take maybe 70% throttle. ????????????Give us a hint as to how it acts when it QUITS TAKING throttle. Does it backfire, just hump up and start smothering like it wanting more gas through the carb or starving for gas...

Briggs V Twin 22HP oil leak under both cylinder heads

Doubt it's warped enough that it's the heads/block. Those use the thicker type head gasket. If it's the head gasket on both it's probly not been torqued in the proper sequence. You can check a head by lapping on a piece of glass, usually

Briggs V Twin 22HP oil leak under both cylinder heads

Do as startech says. Use a UV tracer in your motor's oil. You can get a Automotive store. Review on-line how to use first. Be sure and get the correct type for motor oil. (not for water, antifreeze, freon, etc) Do not let the RV dry for long time once detected because it will be permanent dye...

    Electric fuel pump

What model and type Briggs do you have and what type pump is being used now if any AND Why do you want to try other than the OEM type pump??????????? Small engine electric pumps are expensive (around $50) and must be in the output range of 1-3 psi.

    Mower blades not disengaging

If we had your tractor model and deck size we might could give more precise info about your blade brakes. No need in blade brake pads if the belt is not correct because the pads will burn/wear out fast. On some rigs I've had to install addition blade break helper springs so as to hold the brake...

If that is Amazon Prime and the belt still looks ok and if it's wrong length send it back for a full refund, maybe. Usually easy to do with Prime just click on returns and go to UPS depot for free shipping. that is if you ordered the correct part number and the belt is wrong size, not your fault.

I've felt your pain. You have to be careful and not ruin the transaxle/transmission. I have a large puller OTC that is available from HF. I drill 1/2 inch hole in the rim on each side of the axle and apply pressure with the puller using long 3/8 bolts through the rim. I've also had to take a...

Too much compression. adjusted the valves and it got worse

And sometimes you might have to go back after it's run awhile and reset just the intake lash. Briggs 16HP Vanguard carb / fuel problem

Just couple tips: A OPEN diode will not keep the magneto from firing. A shorted or low resistance diode will result in erratic/misfire operation. The diodes purpose is as isolation diodes, isolating one mag from the other when the engine is running. I've replaced those diodes with a 1N4007, 1...

Briggs 16HP Vanguard carb / fuel problem

Hard to tell for sure but I seem to detect that it's only running on one cylinder sometimes maybe. (or one cylinder is weaker) You can judge such by rpm drop as each cylinder is disabled, comparing one to the other. You can easily confirm such by sliding back the rubber boots on both spark...

Right about the ABF (anti back fire) solenoid plunger. I've heard rumors that they can be tested on the work bench with a good 9v xistor radio battery but I always just use 12v. Make sure the plunger is fully retracting. I have cleaned up sticking plungers by using a oil and just keep on...

Briggs 16HP Vanguard carb / fuel problem

Just to give you a brief idea of their use: Those ports in the carb throat are called something like transistion ports. You can re-view such on-line.
