Dolmar is owned by Makita. All current model of Dolmar trimmers and blowers are 4 stroke. The 2 strokes are in limited supply and are being discontinued. Makita also owns Fujitsu Robin ( not quite right spelling) which is where they are getting the 4 stroke technology. As a Dolmar dealer, I find that the 4 strokes are quieter, and they are getting some really long hours out of them. I have heard rumors of 2000 hours on the blowers. I imagine the trimmers will be about the same.
The service interval on the Dolmar 4 stroke is 50 hour oil changes (10w-30 oil) and 200 hour overhead valve adjusments. One of the trimmers ms-245.4 I think is not an all position run engine. can't be used as an edger, meaning run on its side. It will puck the oil out the breather in the air filter housing. The ms-246.4 is a 360 degee operation.
