MTD has bought out many companies over the years and other companies have bought each other out and merged. Does anybody know who manufactures the Cub Cadet trimmers? I have the 27cc unit and have had great success with it for several months. Other than it needed some slight adjustments it has had no problems. It is the split pole kind and not only have I run the trimmer but also I have run it a whole lot with the hedge trimmers on it and I have used the edger, and pole saw a good bit as well. I have the little tiller for it as well but have only run it for a short time but it worked fine as well. I was just wondering who made the power-head. There are like 10 or more brands that the split pole attachments work with interchangeably.

According to the RC group here in town and the somewhat exotic workshop here in town they are a copy of the Zenoa engine. Plant called Chung Yang makes them . Popular here in town on small go carts, granny chairs, bicycles, outboard engines, etc. Cub claims a 125 hour service. Folks in the RC crowd that make their own fuel use non ethanol pump gas filtered and one of the rich oils with a pretty rich mix. Supposed to be MTDs best engine. I would imagine the unit is made and imported by MTD Southwest.

So do I understand that the expected lifetime of the trimmer would be 125 hours? Interesting. I expect mine has probably 40 or so on it now. I wish I had some way to know. It would be interesting to know just how many hours a trimmer is run every year. Every yard has a different amount of trimming that has to be done.........

Yeah that would be hard to determine. Some of my yards have pretty much only along the road/driveway while others have along the driveway, road, both sides of the sidewalk, patio, walkway, and more!

I ran my Cub Cadet power-head several hours last week on the hedge trimmers and the pole saw.

I am very strongly considering purchasing a Stihl or Echo trimmer early in the Spring once we get back making enough to justify spending the cash. Still don't know what to buy. If I do I can hang on to the Cub Cadet to run all of my other accessories. That way I won't have all of the other attachments and no power-head.

If you pick Stihl or Echo, you will still be happy either way! I think it comes down to preference. All I can say is I am happy with all my Echo equipment.

What size trimmer do you reccomend? I have not run either Stihl or Echo.
