Leveling dirt

Don't have any attachments for my mower but I was needing to level some loose dirt that I tilled up to smooth my yard. Is there anything else I could use? Like maybe pulling a 4 foot long crosstie long ways?

Depends on what you have to work with. I built this landplane last week for my x749 to smooth out new lawn areas, these landplanes work extremely well for this. I have an 8' wide and now the 4' wide versions and will use both depending on how much room I have to work with.

Heres pictures of my 4' plane, 8' plane and my lawn that I worked over from a very rough lot.

My mom is a Westbrook from the McComb area by the way.

I am related to Westbrook's all over MS, but don't know any except NE MS and Memphis TN.

Anyway, all I have to work with are a regular Murray rider and a total lack of talent on building anything....haha

A piece of chain link fence with a piece of pipe or cross tie fastened to the front of it would help alot.

I agree that a piece of old chain link fence is right on. bolt a 4X4 or something heavy to it to add weight and pull it with your lawn mower. It will level and get you dirt ready to use. I used a piece about 4 foot long and it worked great. Good luck

A crosstie will work but pull it on the bias so it has a shearing action to remove high areas and fill in any low areas. An angle iron attached to the leading edge would be a plus too. I can't take credit for the angle idea because that's been around since horse and buggy days when drags were made from split logs. And don't let anyone kid you, Murrays do a good job too.
