No start zero turn Kohler 7000

Hello S.,

Please provide the Product information label information off of the machine chassis and off of the engine label. There were many of these built and there were changes often made during production.

That faint click you are hearing is the fuel solenoid activating when the key is turned to the on position. That is normal. You are not getting a starter crank signal from the switch when turned to the crank position.

This could be a failed start switch or a safety switch preventing it from cranking.

Make sure that both of the operator directional handles are in the park position, because they each have a safety switch.

12.4VDC is a low charged battery.

Need to run her at 3600rpm to keep the battery up. Even then a Battery tender every couple months is not out of line.

Alternators do not top off batteries. Want proof? Drive your car or truck for an hour. Connect a Battery Tender up as soon as you get back home. Watch it charge several hours till it tops off the battery. Go on the highway and floor the gas pedal, doesn't matter.

This is where the clicking is coming from, rear of the engine, like a silver bowl looking there. I unplugged the harness and back in, no change.

Battery is fully charged. New starter solo pod as of August

I meant starter solonoid .
There are no labels left on the machine

It does seem like a safety switch of some sort. When I smacked the deck on the landscaping stones is when the blades stopped. My left side.

Anyone have a shop manual? How can I troubleshoot the start circuit?

That is the fuel solenoid I was referring to. It is also called and anti-backfire solenoid. It keeps the carburetor from sucking in fuel after the ignition is cut off but the motor is still spinning due to inertia from the flywheel. Raw fuel gets sucked in and travels through to the hot muffler, then "pop" goes a backfire in the muffler. It does click when the key is turned to the on position and staying open when in the on/run position.

Usually, the chassis identification information stickers are on the bottom side of the seat mounting plate. Tilt the seat up and they should be there unless someone has removed them on purpose.

The engine label being fading or missing on a Kohler engine is not uncommon. A wild guess would be this is a KT745 engine.

THAT is an after-fire solenoid. If kills fuel into the main jet only, to stop gun shot like sounds when the key is turned OFF. Engine winding down pulls fuel into the hot muffler and you get a nice Uncle Buck like BANG.

When you turn the key on, should have battery voltage there at the connector for said solenoid. Key off should have zero voltage there.

When the key is turned to the RUN position the fuel shutoff (Anti-Backfire) solenoid should click. This indicates you have 12v to the key switch. With the brake locked on, the PTO off and the trans in Neutral, the starter solenoid should click and the starter spin when the key turned to start. If not, there is either a blown fuse, safety switch condition not met, bad connection or run down battery. I would check the fuses first then battery cables, both ends, and monitor the battery voltage as the key is turned. Should not drop much below 10v. If it stays close to 12v then I would check the safety. circuits..

The impact, possibly bent the a blade or seized the a spindle.

If the deck belt is still intact and under tension, a seized spindle can mechanically lock the engine, preventing the crankshaft from rotating.

Try removing the deck belt and start the engine. If it turns over, check blades and spindles.

Another possibility is the PTO clutch bearing was damaged.

Craftsman Z6600. Kohler 7000 24 HP. I was mowing, and the left side of my deck caught a landscape stone circle around my flagpole, and the blades stopped turning. I drove a bit playing with the PTO, and they wouldn't start spinning. I stopped the mower to take a look at belt.

Belt was fine. The mower won't start or even turn over now. was running fine except those blades. What might cause it to not start after that deck hit?

Recently put in a new starter and starter solonoid. Charged up the battery, multimeter is saying 12.4 V. With the key in, the hour meter isn't even lighting up. When I try to start there is very faint click coming from the engine side, like probably the driver side of the engine towards the back. The battery is maybe a year old I would guess from memory.

Can someone please help, I am stumped with long grass too
The Craftsman Z6600 zero-turn mower has a fuse.

  • Amperage: Most Craftsman riding mowers, including the Z6600, typically use a 20-amp fuse, though ratings can range from 15 to 30 amps depending on the specific model year and configuration.
  • Location: The fuse is commonly found under the dashboard panel, near the ignition switch, or under the driver’s seat near the battery compartment.
  • Function: It serves as a safety component to protect the electrical circuit from overcurrent, which can prevent issues like PTO clutch engagement failures or starting problems if it blows.
