B+S will start but not stay running.

type 0035-01 code 74072303 # 80332 it will start and run for a few seconds. will not accelerate. I fell that i have a fuel problem. check fuel tank it was clean, replaced fuel line old line crack. Removed carb disassembled found old gas residue and some dirt. Rebuilt carb using a b+s carb kit. The problem remained the same so i went to basics. Check compression 85 lb with 6 pulls, exhaust not obstructed. Removed cover to check key way there no damage. Found wire to points cut off and laying behind flywheel. Now i wonder how it ever ran. Could this motor possibly have a after market flywheel and coil? There is a wire on the coil for a after market kill switch, by the plug there is a original lever to short out the plug. I need to know if the flywheel and coil were replaced to eliminate the points and condenser. Any advice or help would be appreciated.

Did you check fuel flow? Pull fuel line at carb and check for free flow. If there's a fuel pump, crank the motor to check. If fuel flow is good, carry on with ignition checks/wiring. Hopefully someone can speak up about flywheel/coil questions.

does it have any sensors like an oil sensor that check to see if it is safe to continue running? If yes, check there. If no then you still have a fuel delivery problem. You can test it by spraying a little carb cleaner into the carb intake to see if it still keeps running. Do not use ether.

What your AI can't figure this one out? The model number is staring you in the face.

It is 080332-0035-99. All trim codes before 1982 were put under 99 and most five digit model numbers need a leading zero added. This one is a 1974 model.

As for the Flywheel it should be the original. As for coil it depend if the points has been disable or not. The 298274 coil is NLA so electronic replacement is likely the 591420. But is if you have the other coil then it is likely the 291617 which was still available back in 2024. Even with the 591420 should replace it with change out of the governor air vane.
