Valve Cover Liquid Sealant

I have a Honda HRN 216 and I plan on checking the valves. My question is what sealant are you using to seal the valve cover back in place? Hondabond 4, Permatex (gray or black) or another brand.

I am not sure why Honda did not use a traditional gasket. Not looking forward to removing the cover.

Use a painters 5 in1 tool, they work great for valve covers.

As for sealant look for Permatex Right Stuff. It will not make the job impossible later on to get the cover back off.

Thanks. Permatex comes in gray, black and red (high temp). What works the best for this application? Also, does the sealant dry up like caulk does after a few weeks/months?
 
Do the next guy a favor. RTV is so old news. Better non hardening sealants out there now. Also cheaper than RTV.

I agree with what Slomo recommends. Most regular RTV sealers are basically meant for one time assembly and can be a real challenge if you plan to adjust the valves again in the future. #2 Form a gasket is some very good sealant that is user friendly.

A little bit of heat from heat gun, small chisel and hammer and the cover will come off and you can reuse it after completely removing the old sealant from cylinder head and valve cover. Permatex Right Stuff is the way to go.
 
I remember when form-a-gasket was a thing. Some of you know about gasket paper sheets and how to tap out a gasket.

Yep, Permatex #1 got you a hard seal, #2 stayed "soft".....and tapping out a gasket was the way....seems in some things it was easy "back in the day":)
