These days, you would be very hard put to find any engine oil, that does not containe detergent .

What you have stated, is a throw back to my youth, when petrol engine oils, contained no detergent. Time long gone back in "Ye Olden Days"

Detergent oils were originally brought in for diesel engines (high soot levels) nothing to do with filters per say.

Oil foaming is usually associated with the incorrect oil in a hydraulic system, not with engine crankcase oil.
Further - Just because it's a mono grade oil, does not mean that it has not been formulated to do the job ( ie contains anti foaming agents).

There is little doubt that a straight 30 will make engine starting in cold climates more difficult than, say, a 10W/40, so a multigrade is the way to go if conducting winter operations.

A multi grade may also have hot weather benefits in that it may deliver higher viscosity when hot.

The question is; Is the higher viscosity of any significant benefit ?

I do not have the training to answer this but refer you back to my earlier history lesson - Mono grade 30 was used for many years, in small engines, with no ill effects.

I don't have a problem with multi grade oils, just dont think the benefits are as real as some may think. In short we have been subject to marketing / sales hype and many have swallowed it hook line & sinker. :devilish:
 
The wise thing to do is actually measure the oil as you refill the crankcase. Sometimes they drain to spec, other times they might not by either being not drained enough or completely drained. This why I use a measuring cup and fill to near spec and then add a little at the time until to the full mark. Sure save having vacuum the excess when overfilled.
I would absolutely listen to Star tech the only thing I could add to this is 15 years ago I got a free lt2000 from someone who went by some specification and from his perspective he destroyed the engine but I was able to revive it and it still runs today.
 
FX801V DS25. Does anyone know the actual capacity of this engine. I’ve heard different capacities. It has the original dipstick, not the updated version. I’ve been told 2.0, 2.1, and, 2.4. Sorry if I duplicated post.
A completely brand-new, bone-dry engine from the factory takes 2.5 quarts. Because these commercial engines feature an external oil cooler, about 0.1 to 0.4 quarts of oil stays trapped in the cooler lines and pump during a standard drain. Therefore, a standard oil and filter swap requires exactly 2.4 quarts to reach the full mark. Kawasaki eventually released an updated dipstick for certain FX series blocks that adjusted the markings slightly, leading some dealers to mistakenly quote 2.5 quarts. The Dipstick: Pull it out, wipe it clean, and drop it back down the tube. DO NOT SCREW IT IN to check the level. Just rest the plastic cap flat on top of the threads. I have always felt the manufacturer knew what oil was best for their engines and followed these recommendations. It seems as if more manufacturers are recommending a sythetic and multi viscosity oils.

As a small engine mechanic and attending Kohler service schools we were told to use 10W30 due to Kohler using hydraulic lifters and told straight 30 would cause issues with the lifter and cam.
Until I retired (medical, I wish I was still working) 5 years ago when we serviced an engine we used 10W30 in Kohler Commands, and Honda engines and 30 in everything else, Briggs, Kawasaki, Generac etc. and 5w 30 in snowblowers.

Oil Recommendations
Synthetic oil is recommended for use in LPG/

Kohler oils for best performance. Other highquality

So it appears even the Comands can now use 30 as well.
