Hello all, I need help identifying what engine I have

I have a Husqvarna ZTH5223 which I believe is a 2000 model year. The engine was leaking oil while my son was using it and the engine now has a hard to turn spot. I would like to either buy a new engine or have this one rebuilt but all the tags are gone. I know it's a 23hp Kohler command pro horizonal shaft with a shaft front and back. The engine model number I believe is 968999153 any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Tim

The 968999153 is the model number of the mower which references a 2000 ZTH5223 in the parts diagrams. But doesn't give any references to the engine.

With that number shouldn't I be able to find out which motors were used?
No as Husqvarna left that area off the IPL including the throttle/choke controls.

Now it would be CH23 and have an extension on the flywheel side which was a Husqvarna provided part. And the PTO end is 1-1/8 in diameter. Length of the PTO is unknown.

This must have been in a period where Husqvarna had a brain fart as I have ran across several IPLs that are partially or completely.

I think the issue started when Husqvarna consolidated IPL's and eliminated the 9 digit actual model identifier from most of their parts diagrams.

The issue, other than the model number, is where is it leaking oil, and what exactly is “a hard to turn spot?’
You will find that either buying a new replacement engine, or having it rebuilt in a 26 year old mower is expensive.

And this is good example of why all the info about mower should be recorded especially the engine info as these decals do tend to get lost or severely damaged. When they are missing we figure the base engine but the rest is just a guessing game.

Here my software allows me to record this info in the customer file along notes about which motion units the units have if I can find the labels. It has saved the customer's butt several over the last 15 yrs and where the decal is there one year and missing the next year.

Thank you all, the information that the front PTO is a husqvarna supplied part helps a lot. I can now measure the length and diameter of the shaft and narrow it down to a particular motor if I do in fact want to buy a new one. As to the question of what happened. I am embarrassed to say that it started running ****ty and I pulled off as valve cover and sure enough one of the rockers had come off a push rod. I did this mid mowing in the yard. When I put it back together in a rush I caught a piece of the tin cover between the valve cover and head leaving a gap, rookie mistake. The engine ran great but then stopped. Now it's partially seized, I can turn the crank by that seized section with a breaker bar then it turns freely for a couple of revolutions then hits that spot again. I am trying to find a place that rebuilds them I'd rather put $1k-$2k into a mower I know works well than buy another used commercial mower.

Sounds like it ran out of oil and scored the piston, rings, and cylinder. Will not be easy locally to find a shop that will rebuild your engine.
