have an e1170 mower that has a problem with the deck belt riding on back deck support causing belt to be eaten up. the spindles have been replaced, lift support/fuel tank bracket replaced, deck leveled, tire pressures within specs, deck pulleys replaced, new belt . understand the belt should ride on or be just barely touching the bracket but this one sets on or 1/8 below bracket, so looking for any reasons that the deck belt rides on top of bracket as low as it does. causing belt to be eaten up

thanks

Well I wish I could offer some insight here but will have to wait until one E170 comes into my shop to see what they did.

Sounds like another design F up. I am working on a Z425 where it looks like you have to pull the engine in order to adjust the valves.

Check the spindle diameter they should to be 5.228" per the IPL If they are correct it might be to modify the two rear deck hangers. Shouldn't take much to get the clearance needed. Just make sure there is no sharp edges.

May require installing washers, or grinding off metal to gain additional clearance. Also may require bending or grinding deck bracket. I have had to modify decks in the past because of belt travel issues such as this. Deck could be slightly bent and needs to be beat into submission. Get down on your hands and knees at eye level and really look at it.

did find the deck not level lower on left side of deck, center spindle area was welded and the left back lift bracket was cut already but was dressed up edges was like a razor, so when belt rode on the lift bracket it was shaving the belt.
