Ferris for sale (why not buy it?)

A shop not far from me has a 48" Ferris for sale for $2,200. And I'm really thinking about getting it. This LX188 is just of a pain. The hood won't come off, unless you get down and unbolt it from the hinges. And the screen that covered the engine, is constantly getting covered up with grass. (which chokes out the air filter intake).

I didn't get a close look at it. Was in a hurry looking for a belt for a customer.

But from what I've heard is that Ferris parts are hard to comeby now days. I'm fine with aftermarket parts. But still using only OEM for something.

How many hours? What age?

Private owner, landscaper unit or shop selling to clear up a disputed service repair billing?

The asking price is a little less that 50% of some the new models when I checked online.

Ferris is a great, solid zero turn. Parts are not hard to find.
How can we tell what the general value is without details about the mower and a model number? LX188 is a John Deere riding mower and sounds like you have a liquid cooled Kawasaki. Pictures, condition, age, hours, etc. all play into to determining used value.

I think he assumes that we know he already owns an LX188 that is giving him trouble, so he is looking at buying a Ferris to replace the JD.

It's been years since I've worked on a Ferris. There's just no dealers around here. It's mostly JD and Gravely. I remember reading here about distribution problems with some Briggs parts. IIRC, there was something also said about Ferris.

The LX188 isn't really part of the point. It's more about parts availability than anything. Getting stuck with a great mower I can't hardly buy parts for, would be a huge mistake on my part.

Parts availability for Ferris is fine. Just because there is not much of a presence for Ferris in your area means nothing. Order parts online.

What was all the talk, a few years ago, about Ferris or Briggs filing bankruptcy? Or did I just imagine all that?
