Craftsman 17" front end tiller

Need your help

I got a craftsman 3.75 hp front end tiller

My friend got it from another friend and it did not run, my friend took and cleaned the carburetor and then gave it to me, I finished assembling it and it runs.

The only thing I am sure, I think I am missing a piece of carburetor linkage. Right now, it does not have any linkage going from the carburetor to the hand control. Possibly I assembled it incorrect.

Does anyone have a diagram for how this linkage is installed?

normally on a tiller, the hand controls determine forward - sit in one place - reverse. The engine speed is controlled by a lever near the carb. You need to find the engine number and serial to look up those controls.

thank you that is what i am trying to figure out the linkage by the carb. I can't find any numbers on the engine I will look again thank You
 
Air vane governor system. I don't have a single or married engine with this system here.

PER the owners manual the engine is a Briggs 094202-01115-E1 which would be a typo as it is probably 094202-0115-E1

So basically from the throttle level to governor linkage is the governor spring. Note this engine also has a governed idle spring too. The loop in the governor linkage is where the spring attaches from the throttle lever.

Now the engine in the owners manual appears to have a different setup which I have never seen so if that is the version you are sorta on your own.

Thank you, Star Tech, I put the engine number in and got to see some parts list so now I will check if my parts are the same as shown thanks again
 
I owned an earlier 26" version of what you have for 25 years. The speed control is on the side cover. As I recall, the lever slides from stop on the left to fast on the right. The choke is on the same side cover. You move the throttle to the position you want it to run. The linkage would connect that lever to the carb. There is no speed control on the handle. The controls on the handle contol the belt. They are engage tines, and reverse.

Each model could have slightly different linkages due to different fuel tanks, carbs and engines. I found these images online. They may or may not be like yours.

My tiller had a Tecumseh engine. If yours is a Briggs and Stratton engine there are pages of carburator linkages they used in their Single Cylinder L-Head engine repair book. I also just looked in the Tecumseh service book and quite a few are in it too by engine type. Don't know if that will help or not. Another possiblity is finding one for sale on Facebook Marketplace then see if the owner is a kind person who will let you take some photos of the linkage. Good Luck.
