Where do these parts go? 1996 MTD 14.5/42-7spd. 5 1/2" spring & stamped triangular shaped metal, seems to want to be connected to motor Idler pulley

These parts dropped off as I was removing drive parts to rebuild the variable pulley. That done and reinstalled I can't find exactly where these go. The stamped part seems to want to go with the motor idler but there's not one parts diagram that I've reached through that shows these two parts. with out them installed, the speed control lever moves way too freely towards the front and backwards. Help please!

Sorry about that. I'm new to this site. Thanks for responding. Best I've been able to determine is it's MTD YardMachines vintage 1996 (based on the Briggs 14.5HP engine plate. All the body and frame decals are gone. There's a ghost of a decal that says "14.4-42 7Speed. In searching drawings I've found that the diagrams of 136M670G000 match very closely, except those parts are not shown on any drawing I've scrutinized. I've probably reviewed about 9 or 10 1995-1997 MTD models. My tractor has a motor belt idler and even that is only shown on about one drawing. Those parts that I show are nowhere for me to find. The spring you show isn't it. I know that one. The spring in the photo is only 5-1/2 long, 1" in diameter, 20 or 21 coils. the coils are 3" in length. One hook end is 1-3/4", the other is just 3/4". It is an extremely tight and strong.
 
The parts shown are part of the seat bracket and operates the operate present switch. And yes the spring is very hard to install due to its spring rate.

And here is an image of the spring laid on a measurement grid. Each square is one inch.

Thank you. I didn't even remember where those parts dropped from. The seat wasn't held to the spring-maybe it was just dangling and fell down when I jacked up the mower. I did take the seat off at one point and wondered why one the hinge shoulder bolts was longer. Spring hanger!?
 
You asked where the part came from. I gave you a parts image that matched, and a link to a photo on ebay of the exact same part proving that the parts image was correct. If that isn't good enough, have not a clue what will be. Good luck.
