Murray 42514x8a deck brakes

Hi iam looking to replace my mower deck brakes on a 2000 murray 42514x8a lawn tractor 42" no part available? Oem brakes # Ls,94049E700 Rs,94047E700. Any ideas.thank bob
 
Appears the pads are just riveted on. Provided the rest of the assemblies are in good shape you may have to make your pads out of brake lining material.

What I use is old worn out Automotive disc brake pads. When I say worn out I save the ones that still have enough pad thickness for mower blade brakes.
I use a cutting disc in a right angle grinder to cut to size. Wear dust respirator, it's asbestos and metal filings.
If the metal backing is not needed heat the metal and the pad will fall off. If I need just the brake pad without the metal backing I drill a recessed hole for a small pan head screw. If the metal backing can be left attached I just drill a hole through the metal for a recessed pan head screw. I usually use couple brass screws..
I make several at same time.
But if you can find a replacement brake just buy.
Get ready for sticker price shock.

If it's my own equipment I sometimes just remove the brake assembly and operate like the old style chainsaws without a chain break. I also sometimes go really bad and rip that tag off of a mattress that is illegal to remove. :eek:

Update on my discontinue deck blade brake. I was able to replace pads.I used a set of ohoho pads 76105007 cut my lawn stop blade. Thanks for the reply, hope this information helps someone else.

Why? I'd have ripped that brake crap off long ago.
 
Yep, that's what I save my old auto pads for. They get cut to size with a cutoff wheel in the grinder, and reused in the mower. Depending upon the mower, you may have to JB Weld them to the tab that the old brake material was attached to. When grinding to size, wear a mask, since those brake pad particles can be nasty to your lungs.

I use a cutoff wheel in a 4 inch grinder with the pad in a vise when first starting.

Some of them replacement deck brake pads are only available with the bracket arms and are costly. I've seen some of these type brakes hang up or jam and keep the PTO from engauging the blades.
