The parts book shows 954-04060C belt V Type A 96.5 inches. Other places it shows 96 ?? Will both work? Is the shorter maybe for when there is wear in linkage parts ????

Use the belt that the manufacturer calls for and not one from an auto parts store or a generic hardware store. Most rider belts have a Kevlar or Aramid backing and middle layer for strength and to reduce stretching.

Just because they claim it will fit, does not mean that it works for the machine.

Where are these manufactured called for belts produced? What would happed if a 1/2 inch shorter belt was installed?

Hello F.,

Not to sound sarcastic but, buy both belts and perform a live study, then report back your findings. No one can honestly answer your question otherwise.

Not all belt manufacturers produce identical belts.

Example: When I was a service manager, JD had several newer rider models that were produced with their proprietary drive belts. There was practically no aftermarket belt that would work on them at the time.

When my new belt expires I will try the 1/2 shorter belt. Most of the pto lever travel seems to do very little anyhow Thanks Jim Senn Old Man Athol Idaho

If this has a lever type PTO, often times there is a minor slide adjustment on the cable bracket mounted to the mower deck. This adjustment is often overlooked and that will allow a belt to slip too much as it stretches and ages.
