Just curious did you figure out what the problem is? The only thing I could think of that might help is if you have a thermal gun start the mower and just see what the temperature is it's the exhaust pipe when it shuts down to tell others here

An immediate engine kill, look for a bare spot or mice chewed wired on the coil kill wire. Check the harness from key to coils. All the safeties too. Some wire is shorting out on you.

If your carb has an after-fire solenoid on the bottom of the bowl, test it. Connect 12 volts to the two wire harness. This will RETRACT the plunger on the solenoid. No 12 volts will EXTEND the plunger. If your key to this solenoid is working proper, cycle the key on and off. Key ON should have 12 volts AT the solenoid. Key off 0 volts DC.

Does it have good spark tested with an OPEN GAP style tester? Bulb types just toss in the trash. Turn the lights out to see the spark better.

Starts and runs great, then shuts down immediately. I replaced the coil and then bypassed the seat cut off switch, still no luck.. Thinking maybe I got a bad coil. it's a B&S 33R877 in a Craftsman tractor mower, 8 years old.

Had a similar problem with m LX176 about 5-6 years ago. Replaced the coil. Same problem. Replaced the chip. Repaired.

Have you tried a new spark plug? Sometimes those break down internally and cause problems.
