Smokes when cold and using the choke!

I saw the 2 stroke on line, it seemed to be the bigger focus. I didn't see the 4 stroke videos, thanks.
I just picked up a tac meter, and should be seeing a digital scope to look inside the cylinders.
I just took apart the carb again. The main nozzle and jet was so clean looked new, no dirt in any holes. How ever I found I made a mistake installing the carb the first time. I had dropped a small spring and had one hooked up wrong.
I try to take photos but still find myself screwing up. I'm trying to learn about the governor, I think I had it wrong. Grand child's tomorrow, hope to re-install Sunday. The throttle wasn't working super racing, no throttle control!! As I said, I had it wrong.
Slomo, thanks for the help

2 stroke or 4, doesn't matter. They both have a float with needles and seats. Work just like your toilet at home. Open your toilet tank lid and see a LARGER version of what you are working on.

This is very typical of the old FH series. (Very nice engines by the way part of why they fail almost to good) Lots of good answers yes check your filter sort of normal yes your pulling oil but from where??? Worn valve guides and seals is typical on the Fh. Having choke on essenialy closes off the intake. This creates a massive amount of vacuum compared to WOT no choke. Kawasaki wants the heads pulled at 3-5 hundred hours decarbonized and valves done. In reality the valve guides should be done and nobody is doing the stuff anymore. New valve guide seals will clear it up for a good long while. And depending what you wanna get into. Pull the heads like Kawasaki says lower the compression some which I'm sure is through the roof right now due to the carbon. You can try running sea foam through it if your willing to deal with a smoke show. And you can do the valve guide seals carefully without droping the valves in without pulling the heads.

Kawasaki engines smoke at startup. It is normal. I would resist messing with things if the engines are running ok. Go to your local OPE dealer and start a new kawasaki engine on a 15k zero turn and it will smoke.

Hello J.,

A choke enrichens the fuel/air mixture for easier cold starting but will make an engine smoke until the choke is turned off. Don't expect "more power" by using the choke.

Using Ethanol free gas simply prevents excessive moisture from being absorbed into it and creating carburetor problem.
And 10% ethanol is just fine.

Smoke is white, I also noticed when doing my spring oil change, I'm getting gas into my oil!
I picked up an ultra sonic cleaner after reading more on this forum and I've pulled the carb to clean it.
I'm picking up a new float valve today, along with gaskets and o-ring for the bowl. I hope I can do this, I'm concerned about getting back together. The springs and wires going to the governor! What a pain.
Install a Fuel Shut off Valve and use it to stop the implement when finished the task. Fuel in the Oil is a huge problem. Drain Crankcase after installing Fuel Valve and change the Filters.

Spring mower tune up
Two riding mowers, both smoke when cold and using the choke! Smoke stops when the choke is off.
I use ethanol free gas.
